Rehabilitation Services Manager plans and implements the overall rehabilitation functions policies, procedures, and services. Ensures efficient and effective operations for physical therapy, sports medicine, occupational therapy and speech departments. Being a Rehabilitation Services Manager identifies services through program planning and facilitates program development. May require an advanced degree. Additionally, Rehabilitation Services Manager typically reports to a director. The Rehabilitation Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. The Director of Rehab must have: an Associates, Bachelors, Master’s or Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech and Language Pathology, a current state license in their discipline, a minimum of 3 years of rehabilitation experience, proven leadership and program development/supervisory (management) experience, knowledge of state, federal, and therapy practice act legislation/laws, interdisciplinary management skills, an understanding of essential duties in the rehab department, excellent oral and written communication skills. Previous skilled nursing facility experience preferred.
The Director of Rehab:
• Utilizes Net Health software to effectively monitor delivery of care, efficiently manage clinical services provided, maintain the caseload on a daily basis, perform monthly closeouts for operations and billing export, and make use of the advanced documentation to meet specific clinical standards
• Utilizes Net Health to monitor the Part B Therapy Cap and the Mandatory Manual Review, as per CMS guidelines
• Orients and trains rehabilitation personnel
• Completes skills competency checklist for all rehabilitation staff
• Reviews and updates Rehabilitation policy and procedures on a regular basis to ensure compliance with facility process and state/federal regulations
• Supervises rehabilitation clinical and support staff within the facility. This includes:
o Conducting Monthly Quality Assurance Reviews and Chart Audits on Active and Discharged rehabilitation patients
o Informing staff of all deficiencies and charting completions, as indicated
o Developing a progressive discipline plan for frequent non-compliance
• Conducts quarterly program evaluation reviews, including:
o Identifying rehab program evaluation areas
o Collecting program evaluation information
o Developing an action plan for all non-conforming areas
• Runs management reports in Net Health, which include:
o Therapist Productivity
o RUG Utilization
o Average Length of Stay
o Functional Outcome Measures
o Census Summary
• Reviews referrals and discharges of Rehabilitation and Long-term care (Restorative) programming to evaluate service delivery and needs
• Facilitates facility integration of rehabilitation services by:
o Communicating rehabilitation service information to the facility administrator, including:
Rehabilitation programming: Restorative programming, in-servicing, rehabilitation staff concerns and recommendations, monthly Management and Quality Assurance Report interpretation
Program development activities (i.e. Developing dining programs or Hip replacement critical pathways)
Referral patterns
• Assist in facility and rehabilitation marketing plan, including:
o Performing referral rehabilitation screenings; being a community and referral source in servicing
o Providing program evaluation and outcome information for inclusion in marketing materials
o Assisting in market analysis and providing recommendations for new rehabilitation programs
• Reviews and makes recommendations to the facility concerning staff education needs and requests
• Provides in-services and obtains speakers to assist staff in improving their job performance
• Depending on the volume of the facility, the Director Rehab will be responsible for providing direct patient care (a productivity standard will be set depending on the volume of rehabilitation services)
• Based on the Director of Rehab’s therapy discipline, they will be held to the same professional job duties/responsibilities, qualifications, and physical, emotional, and cognitive requirements as delineated in the discipline job description
• Other duties as assigned by the facility
