Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare determines the extent to which patients' insurance covers their treatments. Reviews appropriateness of CPT-4/ICD-10 coding and determines if care provided corresponds to the charges submitted. Being a Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations and company policies that govern Medicare and state payment systems. May assist in identifying fraudulent non-plan billing practices and assists the legal department with litigation preparation. Additionally, Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or AHIMA. The Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Responsibilities :
Collects payments for medical services from patients, insurance companies, and others.
Analyzes accounts to identify errors and ensure timely filing of claims.
Prepares and mails monthly statements to patients.
Recommends adjustments to billing and coordinates with collection agencies.
Scans documents and prepares patient files for storage.
Communicates patient account information in a secure system.
Generates reports as needed.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Maintains professional relationships with colleagues and patients.
Attends meetings and trainings.
Follows instructions and completes tasks independently.
Qualifications :
Two (2) years of consistent experience in reimbursement processing.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of medical billing and coding (CPT and revenue codes).
Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
Proficient in computer programs (WordPerfect, Word, Excel).
Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
