Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare determines the extent to which patients' insurance covers their treatments. Reviews appropriateness of CPT-4/ICD-10 coding and determines if care provided corresponds to the charges submitted. May assist in identifying fraudulent non-plan billing practices and assists the legal department with litigation preparation. Additionally, Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or AHIMA. The Reimbursement Specialist - Healthcare gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.   • Job Description:

    • Fast-paced, large ophthalmology practice looking for a CPC and reimbursement specialist with a comprehensive background in all facets of medical billing.

    Responsibilities:

    • Ensures that claims are accurately coded before submission and submitted in a timely fashion.
    • Effectively provide correct coding education and feedback to all providers, clinical staff, and other staff with regards to payer policy and regulations that impact workflows, revenue, and compliance; this includes written, verbal, and electronic communications.
    • Demonstrate the ability to quickly identify and investigate possible coding compliance issues and trends to be escalated to the billing manager for review and education.
    • Independently research and accurately resolve insurance denials in a timely fashion and with moderate supervision, as well as maintain follow-up on worked claims.
    • Review and contact insurance and patient on all outstanding balances.
    • Update patient insurance and demographic information as supplied by the patient, insurance carrier, or internet website and file all affected claims.
    • Utilizes payer and coding websites, stays current on coding issues, coding changes, or other issues that affect compliance and reimbursement, and shares appropriately with the rest of the coding staff.
    • Maintains up-to-date coding knowledge, including new changes to coding compliance and reimbursement.
    • Must be able to effectively deal with stressful situations calmly and productively while maintaining the highest degree of customer satisfaction.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and abide by all HIPAA requirements and standards.
    • Excellent verbal and written/electronic communication skills when communicating with patients and staff and effective listening skills.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Successfully completed CPC certification.
    • Minimum of three years’ experience with professional billing and coding.
    • Ophthalmology experience is a bonus, but not a must.
    • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers.
    • Must be able to maintain a Microsoft Excel trend spreadsheet
    • Must be able to run reports in the EHR program.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft applications, including Word and Excel, and Internet/Web skills.
