Reinsurance Director is responsible for the administration of reinsurance plans. Maintains plan records and ensures compliance with federal regulations. Being a Reinsurance Director communicates with customers and assists with plan design and distribution when necessary. Ensures timely accounting, reporting and auditing. Additionally, Reinsurance Director researches and analyzes reinsurance prices and specifications. Communicates with underwriting area to verify the proper reinsurance administration is put in place. The Opportunity
This role provides executive level leadership and oversight to a team responsible for the development and management of highly competitive products while focusing on protecting the financial strength of the organization and building long-term value. The team is responsible for pricing the life, health, and annuity products as well as sourcing, managing, and administering the reinsurance program for USAA's life insurance companies.
What you'll do:
Partners with General Managers, Finance, Investment Management, Underwriting, and other key stakeholders to correctly position product portfolio and establish pricing programs aligned with product/sales strategy and revenue recognition requirements.
Responsible for monitoring the ongoing business environment and directing the development and analysis of pricing models and projections to ensure competitive pricing/market position.
Oversees the implementation of pricing proposals across the organization. Selects, develops, and evaluates leaders to direct the efficient operation of the function.
Accountable for developing reinsurance strategies to manage capital, mitigate risk, and/or improve pricing leverage; effectively sourcing and maintaining reinsurance partnerships; and negotiating and executing reinsurance transactions.
Provides executive oversight on counterparty risk assessment and risk mitigation.
Oversees management and administration of reinsurance agreements for the entire life cycle.
Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.
Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or other quantitative field; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
10 years of progressive actuarial experience in life, annuity, or health insurance and/or reinsurance to include developing strategies, managing major initiatives and effectively delivering results within a complex matrix environment.
8 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams.
Extensive knowledge of risk/compliance management framework and policies.
Strong communication/presentation skills to include extensive experience effectively delivering key messages to key stakeholders and executive leadership teams.
Knowledge of pricing tools, techniques, and methods; ability to assess analytical and pricing models through the use of statistical principles.
Knowledge of reinsurance activities and considerations; ability to implement reinsurance practices following all standards, applicable laws and regulations.
Fellow, Society of Actuaries and Member, American Academy of Actuaries required.
What sets you apart:
Reinsurance experience to include structuring, negotiating and leading reinsurance operations.
Experience pricing more than one product line (e.g. life, annuity, or health products).
Experience in one or more actuarial functions other than pricing products (e.g. asset liability management, valuation, risk management, model management, economic capital management, etc).
Experience in non-actuarial roles leading product, sales, underwriting or marketing.
Compensation:
USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $207,600 - $373,700.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
