Reliability Engineer analyzes and evaluates the reliability of products, equipment, components, and processes using engineering methodologies and tools. Develops the methods and measures utilized for reliability analysis based on product specifications, tolerances, or operating standards. Being a Reliability Engineer utilizes analysis techniques like FMEA, fault tree, and root cause analysis to identify problems. Oversees testing activities and reviews results. Additionally, Reliability Engineer creates risk-based failure mitigation plans. Proposes new or revised product designs, manufacturing processes and testing specifications that utilize best practices and will increase reliability. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to an engineering manager. The Reliability Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. The general responsibilities for the Reliability Engineer, are to manage and coordinate the PDM/MIT program. Coordinate maintenance activities and recommends repair methods for regular maintenance activities and breakdowns. Identifies and acts upon maintenance and reliability improvements.
Additional Responsibilities for the Reliability Engineer will include:
· Analyzes preliminary engineering-design concepts of equipment to recommend design or test methods for attaining operational reliability.
· Utilizes knowledge of product technology, and knowledge of equipment and machine capabilities to advise production engineers during design review meeting by providing information such as reliability findings and recommendations to increase the reliability of the system.
· Actively involved in research of new stationary and rotary equipment to increase production efficiency and maintenance of equipment to reduce operational costs.
· Develops, initiates, and/or monitors Capital projects of the Maintenance Department.
· Confers with production personnel regarding system reliability, and equipment requiring repair or replacement to achieve unit integrity.
· Develops and trains or directs the training of employees on procedure changes, usage of new equipment, and maintaining credentials/certifications to effectively achieve departmental goals and objectives.
· Supervises the employee activities in ensure efficient scheduling and completion of assignments to maintain mechanical integrity of the plant. Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
· Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
· Reviews Incident database and reports to determine cause of incident. Documents initial incident and tracks implementation of resolution (s) to insure closure and abatement of cause.
· Completes MOC’s for new or modified equipment or procedures as needed.
· Communicates with contractors/ vendors regarding specifications and drawings, proposals of design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements.
· Manages and implements site Mechanical Integrity Program. Modifies, adds or deletes activities and /or procedures as needed to accomplish this.
· Acts as a resource to ensure that piping is fabricated in accordance with local and company specifications as well as applicable standards.
· Facilitate Root Cause Analysis/Focused Equipment Improvement Teams as needed.
· Performs detailed operational analysis of equipment as needed to determine fitness for service or need for maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications:
· 2 years of experience as a Maintenance, Fixed Equipment or Reliability Engineer in an industrial setting – chemical, petrochemical, or refining industry is desired.
· Transportation Worker’s Identification Credentials is a condition of employment
· Knowledge of reliability centered maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance techniques, Root Cause Failure Analysis, rotating equipment, and maintenance management systems in a manufacturing environment
· BS in Engineering from an accredited domestic 4-year college or university - Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
