Reliability Engineer analyzes and evaluates the reliability of products, equipment, components, and processes using engineering methodologies and tools. Develops the methods and measures utilized for reliability analysis based on product specifications, tolerances, or operating standards. Being a Reliability Engineer utilizes analysis techniques like FMEA, fault tree, and root cause analysis to identify problems. Oversees testing activities and reviews results. Additionally, Reliability Engineer creates risk-based failure mitigation plans. Proposes new or revised product designs, manufacturing processes and testing specifications that utilize best practices and will increase reliability. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to an engineering manager. The Reliability Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.

    The Senior Engineer manages work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. The Senior Engineer is expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. Employees in the Senior Engineer position are fully competent in the use of concepts and procedures. The Senior Engineer identifies problems, develops solutions and takes action to resolve.

    Responsibilities
    • Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity,
    • Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities,
    • Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team,
    • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity,
    • Conducts engineering and related studies
    • Completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems,
    • Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies,
    • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,
    • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
    • Maintains accurate records and files, and
    • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

    Basic/Required Qualifications

    Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

    Engineer III

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
    • Minimum of 4 years related work experience.
    • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

    Senior Engineer

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE.
    • Minimum of 6 years of related work experience or 5 years related work experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
    • A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.

    Desired Qualifications
    • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
    • Increasingly proficient in principles of project management.
    • Experience in the utility industry.
    • Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
    • Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles.
    • Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations.

    Working Conditions

    • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
    Specific Requirements

    • Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
