PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Bachelor’s degree in recreation therapy or related field.

Certified recreational therapist or eligible to certify.

State certification as activity director required.
-
One year experience as an activity director, preferably in long term care setting.

Energetic and able to generate enthusiasm.

Ability to organize work and lead others.

Friendly, enthusiastic, able to motivate others.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with and knowledge of a wide variety of leisure time activities.
1. Ensure each resident is evaluated according to his/her background, interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs for the purpose of developing a meaningful activity program.
2. Ensure MDS activity section, associated RAPS and care plan are completed in a timely manner as assigned.
3. Actively participate in Care Conferences.
4. Lead individual/group activity programs.
5. Ensure accurate attendance/participation records are maintained for each resident and that they meet the identified goals of the care plan.
1. Establish an active volunteer program which includes screening, training and supervision of volunteers.
2. Interpret to residents, other staff members and the outside community the purpose and achievements of the activity program.
3. Attend and participate in staff meetings and inservice training programs.
4. Maintain current knowledge of Federal and State regulations that apply to activity programs.
5. Develop methods for effective utilization of community resources.
6. Supervises activity assistants and volunteers including maintenance of all employee records within mandated guidelines and facility policy and procedure.
