    Description

    Position Summary

    The role of the Laboratory Educator reports to the Directory of Laboratory. This position is responsible for designing and creating education that meets the standards of service within the department and providing initial and ongoing training for staff members. This position must support and actively promote the mission, vision, and values of Washington Regional Medical Center.

     

    Essential Position Responsibilities

    • Actively participate within the Laboratory leadership team to provide education strategies
    • Design and create curriculum and education programs within the Laboratory department in order to support and maintain patient care standards
    • Create and implement training that enhances and standardizes workflow expectations within the department focusing on safety, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency
    • Assesses quality of care and services provided and develops education improvement plans, as necessary
    • Ensures timely completion of initial and ongoing mandatory education
    • Designs education services by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines in partnership with Laboratory leadership team
    • Ability to work one-on-one and in group settings to educate staff
    • Develop a collaborative working relationship between Laboratory department and other system departments in order to monitor and improve on quality, timeliness, services and communication standards through education
    • Ensure current policies and procedures and any changes are clearly communicated to staff and education is updated as needed
    • Educate employees on departmental goals and objectives encouraging an engaged, positive staff dynamic
    • Demonstrates an understanding of and supports the philosophy of patient-centered care
    • Remains available to all staff, seeking opportunities to become actively involved, lend support, address problems, and suggest areas of improvement

     

    Qualifications

    • Education: Must be a graduate of a Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science OR meet qualifications as general testing personnel in accordance with CLIA'88 regulations and have relevant medical laboratory experience
    • Licensure and Certifications: ASCP or AMT certification, required.
    • Experience: Minimum 1 year previous experience in an acute care setting, required. Direct involvement in work related to compliance with accreditation standards for College of American Pathologists, Association for Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies, Joint Commission and similar organizations, required.

     

    Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of the time standing and/or walking short distances and 20% of the time sitting while performing repetitive motions as normally required with office work. This position has exposure to communicable and diseases and body fluids.
