St. Matthew Catholic Church is seeking a part-time Secretary in the Religious Education Department responsible for providing a full range of clerical and secretarial functions, while working in a fast-paced multi-cultural work environment. The ideal candidate will be interacting with a diverse age group including students and parents. Bi-lingual in Spanish is required. The position entails greeting visitors and parents; maintaining an organized and clean office. Will oversee and be responsible for the efficient opening and closing of the office.

AREAS OF FOCUS:
Perform secretarial duties as assigned for Director of Religious Education/DRE
Initiate and manage a safe environment program for all DRE volunteers to ensure Archdiocesan and parish compliance.
Maintain all sacramental records associated with children and youth engaged in the program. Proficient in operating telephone system including recorded messages.
Maintains a comprehensive and efficient filing system with emphasis on sacramental records and central departmental files as required.
Oversees an inventory of department and event supplies: orders supplies, materials as needed.
Responsible for maintaining a comprehensive database.
Responsible for photocopying and/or duplicating materials for department staff and volunteer groups as needed.
Responsible for representing a welcoming, organized and clean office environment.
Assist with coordinating religious education office volunteers.
Assist department coordinator in organizing and maintaining accurate financial records for the department associated with registration, program fees, and donations.
As assigned, any other projects and responsibilities by the DRE and Coordinator.

Requirements

2-3 Years’ experience in secretarial and/or office management position working in a religious education or church environment a plus.
High School graduate, college graduate preferred.
Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.
Professional, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; Proficient in computer programs such as Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint, publisher along with Parish Data Systems database and Flocknote.
Project and detail-oriented, deadline-aware, and follow-through. Strong human and communication skills and ability to cooperate in a team-spirit with fellow employees.
Experienced and good customer relations.
Flexible to work nights and weekends, as required.

This is a part time (22.5 hours), non-exempt position and does not include health benefits. Salary is based upon the LA Arch Diocese Scale and depends on qualifications and experience.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
