    Religious Music Services
    Place of Performance:

    Chapel Roots Protestant Musician, Chapel Annex (Bldg 1005), Fort Eustis, VA.
    Objectives:
    The Candidate shall provide lead vocals in conjunction with instrumental piano or guitar music to assist the congregation in worship for the Chapel Roots Protestant Service at the Chapel Annex (Bldg 1005), Fort Eustis, VA.

    If necessary, practice sessions and rehearsals will be held prior to each service at a time to be determined by the Candidate and in coordination with the Senior Chapel Roots Protestant Chaplain. Special services and practice/rehearsals for those services are in addition to the normal weekly work units.

    Candidate shall follow Fort Eustis operating instructions for use and care of buildings and equipment.

    The Candidate shall coordinate all support requirements with the Senior Chapel Roots Protestant Chaplain or his/her designated representative.

    Description of Services:

    • Worship Service Performance. Play the guitar or piano for the designated Worship Service including: accompany singing of hymns, choruses, and spiritual songs, perform prelude, postlude, offertory, and background music for meditation and prayers, that enhance the atmosphere of worship for the particular congregation. Generally, prelude is 10 minutes before designated start time and postlude of at least 5 minutes at the conclusion of the worship Service. Play the guitar/piano as accompaniment for choir and/or worship team rehearsals.
    • Special Services. Candidate shall provide music as necessary for special services in coordination with the Senior Chapel Roots Protestant Chaplain and the Joint Base Langley-Eustis (JBLE) Senior Army Chaplain. Special Services may include, but are not limited to, special religious services and Memorial Ceremonies or Services. When possible, Candidate shall receive four weeks’ notice for special services. However, requests for memorials will generally be short notice.
    • Accompany Choir Rehearsal. Candidate shall provide piano/guitar accompaniment for choir and/or worship team rehearsals. To qualify as a rehearsal, the event will have a minimum duration of 60 minutes.
    • Teamwork and Communication. Candidate shall work closely and in harmony with other musicians and pastoral team, demonstrating a sensitivity and openness to participate in prayers and spiritual conversation while demonstrating a flexibility to adjust worship venues and music in accordance with the spiritual tone and atmosphere of the worship service.
    • Facilities Maintenance. The Candidate shall follow all Fort Eustis Operating Instructions for proper administration and care of facilities and equipment. Notify the Senior Chapel Roots Protestant Chaplain or Chapel NCOIC regarding any maintenance problems or requests concerning the instrument(s) of the chapel annex facility. The Candidate shall ensure that all facilities and equipment are properly secured after use.
    • Decorum. Candidates shall maintain model decorum with special attention to dress and conduct that is appropriate for religious services and programs.
    • Special Services. Candidates will perform during and around special holidays and religious observances to include, but not limited to Easter, Christmas, and New Years. In the event the Candidate is incapacitated or requires time off, it is the responsibility of the Candidate to provide coverage with a musician of equal or greater quality.

    Qualifications:

    • minimum of 4 years’ experience with a church and/or chapel program playing guitar or piano.
    • At least 1 year experience playing acoustic guitar or piano for worship services.
    • Three letters of recommendation which include contact information for verification of required experience.

    Prospective Candidate shall demonstrate proficiency in an audition/interview to be scheduled. The audition will include the following:

    • Two musical selections chosen by the prospective Candidate. The selections will represent a prelude/anthem and offertory music. These selections will be played on the chapel’s acoustic guitar or piano/keyboard.
    • One musical selection chosen by the interview panel. The prospective Candidate may play this selection on either an acoustic guitar or piano/keyboard.
    • Candidate shall have a basic understanding of military protocol and possess the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.

    Government Furnished Equipment and Services

    The Government will furnish all equipment (microphones, keyboard, guitar and other associated sound system equipment) necessary for the performance of duties. The Candidate shall be responsible for safeguarding all equipment.

    The Government will provide access to photocopy machine as necessary to the performance of the Candidate’s duties.

    The Government will not provide office space, workspace, information technology (IT) equipment or IT access.
