The Court Reporter will be responsible for accurately recording and transcribing Grand Jury and Deposition testimonies as required by the USAO. This position entails attending court proceedings at specified locations and delivering transcripts within designated turnaround times.
Responsibilities :
- Attendance and Recording: Attend Grand Jury and Deposition sessions at designated courthouse locations in Brooklyn and Central Islip, NY. Utilize appropriate equipment to accurately record all testimony.
- Transcription: Transcribe recorded testimonies into written form according to the specified turnaround times:
* Regular Transcripts: Complete and deliver within 10 business days.
* Intermediate Transcripts: Complete and deliver within 6 to 9 business days.
* Rush Transcripts: Complete and deliver within 5 business days.
* Daily Transcripts: Deliver before 9:30 am the following business day.
* Expedited Transcripts: Provide a rough draft by 9:00 pm on the same day as the proceedings.
- Formatting: Ensure all transcripts adhere to specified formatting requirements, including title pages containing relevant details such as witness name, date, time, and attorney information.
- Additional Services: Provide condensed transcripts upon request and assist with keyword indexing as needed.
- Communication: Maintain effective communication with the USAO, promptly responding to scheduling notifications and informing of any necessary changes in court reporter assignments.
- Videographer Assistance: Coordinate with videographers when necessary, ensuring accurate recording of proceedings and adherence to attendance fee guidelines.
- Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of all testimony and adhere to strict guidelines regarding the distribution and sale of transcripts.
Requirements:
- Court Reporting Certification: Possess a valid certification or licensure as a court reporter.
- Experience: Previous experience in court reporting or transcription services preferred.
- Accuracy: Demonstrated ability to accurately transcribe spoken testimony with a high level of precision.
- Time Management: Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple transcription projects simultaneously.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with legal professionals and court personnel.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with court reporting equipment and transcription software.
- Confidentiality: Understanding of and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Availability: Flexibility to attend court proceedings on short notice and work outside of normal
business hours when required.
