The Argus-Press, the only daily newspaper serving Shiawassee County, Michigan, is seeking a full-time reporter to join our close-knit staff. The relatively small size of our newsroom necessitates that candidates be comfortable wearing many hats. In addition to contributing consistent, multidisciplinary reportage — including breaking news, event coverage features and more — staff writers are required to shoot photographs and do light graphic design work as assigned. Knowledge of programs such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is a big plus. Best candidates will have a willingness to learn pagination or already possess that skill. Most importantly, candidates should have strong news-gathering skills, with an evident enthusiasm for seeking out stories in every conceivable nook and cranny and a solid grounding in AP Style. Weekend work is required on a rotation basis.
Benefits include paid vacation, paid medical leave, paid maternity leave, health insurance, vision insurance and 401(k) with company match.
This is a great opportunity to work in a news-rich community and really contribute to the success of an independently-owned and operated newspaper. Interested applicants should email their resume, along with relevant writing clips, to Managing Editor Aaron Bodus at abodus@argus-press.com
