Reporter researches a variety of news stories through interviews, observation, and library and/or online resources. Determines tone and intended audience of story. Being a Reporter investigates and writes a variety of simple news stories. May require a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Reporter typically reports to a supervisor. Job purpose
TAPinto Randolph is in search of qualified reporters with experience and an interest in covering local news and municipal meetings in-person, in Randolph. The successful candidate(s) will be assigned to report on in-person municipal and board of education meetings. Other stories may be assigned, based on interest and availability.
TAPinto Randolph is part of TAPinto.net, an award-winning, community-based group of nearly 100 hyperlocal news and marketing platforms that deliver original and objective reporting to their areas.
Expectations
The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic, detailed and dynamic writer, reporting and publishing news stories for TAPinto Randolph. The journalist must embrace social media, including digital and video components.
Additionally, reporters are expected to:
· Create a story that accurately informs, entertains and engages specific audiences and platforms through the use of metrics. Works toward becoming the community’s leading voice in area of expertise.
· Tell a strong story that connects with readers through the articles you produce, as well as through our social media platforms.
Qualifications
Interested candidates must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this position:
· Previous journalism experience with local government reporting preferred.
· Resident of Randolph or nearby community preferred.
· Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills.
· Self-starter who can take direction and contribute ideas for stories.
· The ability to work independently on projects while meeting deadlines.
· Photography and video skills a plus.
· Community development knowledge/experience a plus.
Compensation
· $50-$60 per article
