Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) oversees all activities of a residence hall. Oversees the maintenance and renovation, purchase and inventory of supplies, assignment of rooms and summer housing, and housekeeping functions. Being a Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) is responsible for student housing assignment, maintenance of facilities, and safety of residents. Ensures students follow college/university conduct policies and takes appropriate disciplinary actions when rules are broken. Additionally, Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) room and board in the residence hall is included in the terms of employment. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Res. Hall Manager (Incl. Room, Board) supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. Thorough knowledge of department processes. To be a Res. Hall Manager (Incl.     JOB TITLE:                       

    Post Doctoral Research Associate - Anthropology

    JOB PURPOSE:   

    The Department of Anthropology at the University of Wyoming is currently hiring a post-doctoral research associate to support Dr. Briana Doering’s NSF CAREER research on past central Alaskan environments and their relationship with the archaeological record. This research associates will pursue paleoethnobotanical research in a collaborative and collegial department dedicated to answering theoretically-informed questions about human history.

    This post-doctoral position will be based in Dr. Briana Doering’s research group.

    The Doering Lab specializes in the study of human-environment interaction, focusing on the history of Alaskan resource use. The prospective postdoc will lead and/or contribute to several projects: 1) analyzing paleobotanical remains from archaeological sites central Alaska, 2) assisting in field work at the Swan Point and Niidhaayh’ Na sites in the middle Tanana River Valley, and 3) serving as the primary instructor one semester-length course. A strong applicant will have experience analyzing carbonized plant remains, working with descendant communities, incorporating Indigenous knowledge in archaeological research, and teaching archaeological courses. 

    The University of Wyoming has resources to support paleoethnobotanical research, including the Rocky Mountain Herbarium, the Williams Conservatory, a botany department, the Shell 3D Visualization Center, and the Center for Advanced Scientific Instrumentation. Additionally, teaching resources are available through the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning and the Learning Actively Mentorship Program. 

    This position is a 1-year fixed term appointment that can be extended to a second year based on satisfactory performance. The position will start on July 1, 2024, but a later or earlier start date can be requested. Please contact Dr. Doering at bree.doering@uwyo.edu with any questions. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
    • Lead research projects in collaboration with Dr. Doering
    • Publish work in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences  
    • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students 
    • Interact with faculty, research staff and students to contribute to the disciplinary strengths of the Department of Anthropology and the University of Wyoming
    • Teach one course per academic year

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
     
    Applicants are required to have (or be expected to receive) a PhD degree or equivalent terminal degree in a suitable discipline and have the demonstrated ability, experience, and record of scholarship appropriate to carry out the functions of the position. Applicants who are members of or value working with and in diverse communities are particularly encouraged to apply.  
    • PhD in an appropriate field before the start of appointment
    • Analytical experience in paleobotany
    • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Interest in pursuing research in human-environment interaction in central Alaska
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific findings through publications and presentations 
    • Experience and/or interest in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level
    • Experience in diverse palaeobotanical identification techniques
    • Successful collaborations with descendant communities in previous research
