Incumbent is not given room and board at the residence hall as part of the employment arrangement. Additionally, Res. Hall Manager (No Room, Board) oversees maintenance and renovation, purchase and inventory of supplies, assignment of semester rooms and summer housing, housekeeping functions, and management of student conduct and discipline. Position Summary
The Business Operations Manager is a key position in UNC’s Administrative Service Center (ASC) model. The mission of the ASCs is to provide stakeholders with quality, timely and efficient services. ASCs will achieve this mission by utilizing technology, cultivating the skills of our staff and building strong relationships with campus stakeholders. ASCs will operate with the understanding that we live in a competitive environment and our goal is to ensure efficient and effective service.
ASCs provide support to UNC’s administrative divisions and academic colleges. ASCs reduce fragmentation in roles and emphasize specializations. In its basic form, the ASC team will consist of (1) a business operations manager, (2) a human resources specialist, (3) an accounting specialist, and (4) a communications specialist.
The Business Operations Manager will have primary responsibility for key business functions, including strategic budget management, enrollment analyses, coordination of faculty workload and overloads, accounting and transfer of Research Incentive funds and college endowment funds, and management of the FLAC payroll system. The Business Operations Manager will also coordinate various types of academic support, including course scheduling, coordination of faculty and course evaluations, and accreditation and curriculum support.
Job Duties
Budget
Manager (40%)
• Understand all
components of the college operating budget spanning organizational units and
provide strategic
budget planning.
• Coordinate the
preparation and administration of annual operating budgets, forecasts, and
multi-year
projections for use
within the college and as a component of university-wide financial reporting
and
modeling.
• Consult with deans
and unit leaders to create budgets by line item and analyze in relationship to
anticipated revenue
and expenditures.
• Track future year’s
commitments from a budgetary perspective.
• Analyze, evaluate,
and manage internal and external funding sources/budgets including state,
academic course fee, foundation gift/grant, indirect cost allocation,
self-supporting, and agency funds.
• Investigate, monitor,
advise and recommend solutions for budgetary problems and procedures.
• Compile data to
produce reports for division/college leadership regarding budget status.
• Prepare and submit
budget revisions and corrections.
• Project expenses and
financial feasibility for hiring proposals to assist leadership with faculty
and staff
position management.
• Request Banner
Finance security access and approve Insight security access for faculty and
staff.
• Request new and
update existing approval queues for college funds.
• Complete year-end
budget analysis.
• Project expenses and
financial feasibility for hiring plans and monitor accounts monthly.
• Assist with fiscal policy development within the
division/college.
• Advise and coordinate
with accounting specialists on college processes for purchasing and travel
requests, use of
appropriate account and program codes and requests for journal entries.
• Advise and coordinate
with human resources specialists on faculty and staff position requests, salary
analyses, labor distributions/redistributions, unit leader
stipends, and adjunct and overload contracts.
Course
Scheduling/Evaluation, and Enrollment Analysis (essential 20%)
• Understand the
university course scheduling processes and provide expertise regarding course
schedule data.
• Manage course
schedules. Develop timelines and procedures for course scheduling. Ensure
accurate and compliant course data entry.
• Create, maintain, and
modify the master course schedule.
• Analyze unit
schedules to ensure compliance with state and university scheduling policies.
• Analyze historical
data and make recommendations to college leadership on enrollment trends as
they relate to course schedules and staffing.
• Track and implement
enrollment management recommendations and decisions.
• Track and update
course override data to ensure the appropriate college, division, and
department
receive generated student credit hours.
• Evaluate and process
requests to add individuals to Canvas shells in compliance with the
University’s LMS policy.
• Compile scheduled and
special reports for analysis of course scheduling data.
• Monitor requests for
pre-assigned classroom spaces to ensure there is a pedagogical, technological, equipment,
or disability-related requirement.
• Create and deploy
course evaluation surveys to gather instructional feedback utilized for faculty
and program evaluation.
Faculty
Load and Compensation Management (essential 30%)
• Create and generate
workload spreadsheets for unit leaders to allocate faculty workload/overload
and request adjunct payroll contracts.
• Analyze and verify
workload and overload data to ensure that units allocated represent university
and college workload policies and formulas; consult with unit leaders and dean
to resolve discrepancies.
• Enter and track
faculty workload data, overload payroll assignments, and adjunct payroll
assignments in Banner.
• Coordinate with human
resources specialists to resolve FLAC processing discrepancies.
• Consult with unit
leaders to resolve discrepancies when faculty workload data and instructor
assignments on course schedule do not match; update
instructor assignment for courses in Banner as needed.
• Analyze historical
data and make recommendations to college leadership on faculty workloads.
• Coordinate and track
faculty overload approval process in conjunction with dean and provost
review/approval.
Faculty/Academic
Data Management (essential 10%)
• Serve as Faculty
Success college administrator, in conjunction with associate dean, utilizing
app/platform to build schedules, templates, and workflows for units to complete
annual/biennial/triennial reviews, and comprehensive reviews for pre-tenure,
promotion, tenure, and post-tenure.
• Track faculty
contractual agreements relative to onboarding commitments, reappointment,
evaluation/promotion/tenure schedules and sabbatical
eligibility.
• Track faculty data
for rank, promotion, tenure, and sabbaticals in Banner and request updates from
HR when needed.
• Assist with program
review scheduling, verification, and documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Education:
Bachelor’s degree in the field of Business Administration or Accounting, or five years of office
management experience with a significant budgetary component in a college or university.
2. Experience:
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible related experience in a college or university.

Measures, EvalKit, OnBase, Application XTender.
