Research Fellow develops the strategy and vision to position a project from inception through completion; creates teams and collaborations that understand the project's direction. Communicates direction through words or actions to inspire team members to reach goals. Being a Research Fellow also responsible for planning and budgeting. Requires a PhD in their field of specialty. Additionally, Research Fellow typically reports to a top management. The Research Fellow manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Research Fellow typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Research Assistant supports our agronomic research team in the fields in Iowa and surrounding states. Planting, note taking, sampling, equipment maintenance, plot maintenance, hand pollination and harvest are primary duties of the Research Assistant.
Requirements:
- Experience or basic education in production agriculture. (Higher education may still apply for greater responsibility or other opportunities)
- Available to travel overnight during planting, harvest and occasionally during the summer
- Able to work 60-70 hours/week during planting and harvest
- Walk extended distances in field for note taking and lift and carry 40 lbs
- Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement and clean driving record preferred, not required
Specific Duties:
- Seed packaging and sorting
- Planting (tractor operation, dumping packets, staking fields and/or shuffling boxes)
- Stand Counting
- In-season note taking
- Plant and root samples
- Equipment maintenance
- Hand pollinating in breeding nursery
- Hand harvest nursery
- Harvest (note taking and/or equipment operation)
Additional Details:
Research Assistant with experience and leadership abilities may lead small crews or complete special protocols.
Salary depends on background and skills. Merit based bonus determined by attendance, job completion and enthusiasm. Travel expenses covered.
This is a seasonal position with opportunities to return next year. Temporary positions sometimes lead to full-time employment.
