Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Job Summary:

    The Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in Adolescent Gut-Brain Neuroscience focuses on investigating the gut microbiome's role in drug addiction. This research takes place in a lab, which aims to identify unique microbiota-associated biomarkers that predict substance abuse in adolescents. The position is funded by the Oklahoma Center for Research Microbiome through an NIH-CoBre award. 

    Responsibilities:
    • Conducts research and/or laboratory tasks and experiments under direct supervision.
    • Collects, analyzes and interprets data.
    • Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.
    • Presents findings to higher level staff.
    • Presents results in internal and external research forums such as scientific conferences, lab meetings and institutional seminars.
    • Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
    • Participates in grant and manuscript writing, as appropriate.

    Environmental Hazards:
    Laboratory environment. Possible exposure to hazardous material, hot and cold, blood borne pathogens.

    Physical Requirements:
    Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or without reasonable accommodations.

    Education & Experience

    Position Qualifications:

    Required:
    -PhD in a field related to microbiology or biochemistry
    -Strong computational and communication skills, and to be interested in collaborative research --Background in bioinformatics, anaerobic microbial physiology, and/or microbiology of infectious diseases are highly encouraged to apply.
    -Experience in gut microbiome analysis and other omics is desirable. -
    -Work independently taking responsibilities in the development and execution of experimental procedures to successfully advance the research project.
    -Responsible for preparing data for presentations, progress reports, and the preparation of manuscripts and posters.
    -Good communication and writing skills, as well as a mindset for collaborative research.

    Skills, Proficiencies, and Knowledge:
    • Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
    • A Ph.D. degree in scientific discipline. With previous expertise in gut microbiome and/or bioinformatics.
    • Minimum publication or in preparation of two articles as first author in a reputable peer-reviewed scientific journal.
    • Excellent written and verbal skills.
    • Good problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to conduct independent research.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team.
    • Technical laboratory experiment techniques. Examples include but are not limited to RT-PCR, RNA/DNA extraction/preparation, behavioral techniques.
