    Department Summary
    UNT is rapidly expanding its Center for Agile and Adaptive Manufacturing (CAAAM) (caaam.unt.edu), a State of Texas funded multi-million-dollar initiative with a multi-disciplinary focus on further advancing the science and technology of additive manufacturing (AM). CAAAM involves a multi-disciplinary team of researchers from materials science, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, data science, cybersecurity and logistics & supply chain, committed to collaborating on large research projects with an emphasis on additive manufacturing. Since AM of advanced alloys and metals-ceramic composites constitute major focus areas of CAAAM, there is a strong thrust in the center on development of relevant powders. CAAAM has recently acquired a state-of-the-art Tekna powder processing system based on spray drying followed by plasma spherodization of custom-designed alloy powders for AM.
    Position Summary
    The Post-Doctorate Research Associate (PORA) role is primarily focused on the independent technical delivery of and leadership in the development of projects/activities related to powder processing and alloy development for AM within CAAAM. The PDRA will work with the faculty across various departments with an inter-disciplinary approach to AM. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop new powder processing technologies for alloys such as steels, aluminum-base, nickel-base, titanium-base, and refractmy alloys, specifically for AM applications. Closely coupled with the AM powder processing will be development of next generation alloys and composites for AM. The selected candidate is expected to have experience in areas such as: processing of metallic/alloy powders, AM of metals and/or other powder-based manufacturing technologies such as hot isostatic pressing or spark plasma sintering of alloys/composites, alloy development including a strong background in physical metallurgy. The position is also expected to provide technical expertise and support to graduate and undergraduate students, assist/lead preparation ofresearch proposals and scientific/technical papers and presentations.
    Minimum Qualifications
    Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in materials science and engineering or mechanical engineering or a related discipline with a strong research focus on powder-based alloy processing/manufacturing. The research background should be evident from the prior high-quality publications.
    Preferred Qualifications
    Applicants that demonstrate aptitude and experience in interdisciplinary collaborations will be a plus.
