Job Description
The AVPRED position supports a faculty member at 50% FTE during the academic year to allow the faculty member to continue teaching and service at a reduced level, along with continued scholarly activity. The AVPRED can be supported at 100% FTE during the summer, depending on the level of the personal research and scholarly activities that the faculty member will be involved in. The AVPRED will engage with all areas of the Research Office: VPRED activities, Research and Sponsored Programs, Technology Commercialization, and Research Compliance. The AVPRED may serve as the VPRED designee or as the TU representative at special events and meetings.
The AVPRED will work directly with the VPRED on strategic vision and planning for TU activities in research and economic development to increase opportunities for externally funded awards from federal, state, local, and philanthropic entities. The AVPRED will meet with individual and teams of faculty across all colleges, centers, and institutes, to learn about and document their research and scholarly activities and to understand strengths, potential sources of support, and the types of internal and external collaborations that could enhance the activities. The AVPRED will assess and address policies and practices within the Research Office in light of the outreach to faculty and staff, federal and state regulations, potential external partnerships, and available internal research funding support.
Required Qualifications
The candidate must be a full-time, TU tenured faculty member with significant scholarly activity that is relevant in their field. The candidate should have experience in planning, coordinating, and successfully executing research-related activities. The candidate should be comfortable communicating with faculty and students outside of their area of expertise, as well as engaging with federal, state, commercial, and philanthropic agencies to forge collaborations and sponsorship opportunities.
