Research & Development Test Technician

Position
Reporting to the Research & Development Manager, the Research & Development Test Technician will run tests and experiments and prepare summaries of collected data to support or reject hypotheses for projects being executed by R&D engineers and scientists.
Responsibilities
- Promote Safety as the number one priority
- Ability to work and complete assignments independently
- Communicate and explain test results and decision-making to members of staff and other departments as required; participate in weekly staff meeting
- Use devices such as scales, Vernier's, dial indicators, calipers, electronic indicators, tensile testing, metallurgy hardness testing, pressure sensing instruments, temperature monitoring equipment and other more complex instruments, both mechanical and electronic, to conduct measurements
- Maintain lab equipment including calibration, maintain lab cleanliness and general lab organization
- Utilize computer software programs to manipulate and transmit data, and prepare unbiased graphical analysis of tested samples
- Build and test prototypes, jigs and fixtures as needed
- Test and qualify new materials
- Maintain necessary files, records, and computer databases of historical information
- Develop new test methods and acquire associated lab capital
- Perform other tasks as necessary
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree in Engineering preferred
- Experience with computers, database and spreadsheet programs, and Windows operating systems, including Microsoft Excel and other MS Office programs
- Helpful would be experience with CAD (specifically, Solidworks)
- Outstanding mechanical aptitude and hands-on skillset.
- Basic knowledge of statistical concepts, basic mathematical skills and ability to draw conclusions from results
- Strong communication skills - both written and verbal
- Ability to solve practical problems and prioritize workloads
- Ability to work with power tools and construct test rigs and assemble test samples
- Positive "can do" attitude
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and regularly lift up to 35 pounds
- Good close vision and depth perception skills
- Must have own vehicle and valid driver's license
- Must be able to travel up to once a month for 1-3 days
