Research and Development Director directs and implements an organization's research and development policies, objectives, and initiatives. Ensures research and development activities will maintain an organization's competitive position and profitability. Being a Research and Development Director consults with top management and research and development team and makes recommendations based on research findings and product performance. May require an advanced degree. Additionally, Research and Development Director typically reports to top management. The Research and Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Research and Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Targeted salary range: $60,320-$64,000

    Brief Statement of Duties

    Brief Statement of Duties:
    Provide administrative leadership in compliance with federal regulations for the McNair Scholars Program including grant writing and program development; undergraduate research programs staff development and supervision; budget development, maintenance, and management; and direct student contact and counseling. Provide campus leadership for undergraduate research initiatives and support for undergraduate research events.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required Education:
    Master's Degree

    Discipline / Degree Area:
    Student Affairs Administration, Counseling, Psychology, or a McNair Scholars related field

    Required Specialized Training/Certifications:

    Required Minimum Work Experience:
    Three years' experience in administration of TRIO or student affairs programs.
    Three years' effective supervisory/leadership experience.
    Experience working with low-income, first-generation, and under-represented students at the college level.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:
    Strong interpersonal, collaboration and networking skills.
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
    Self-directed and highly organized.
    Demonstrated experience working with funded programs.
    Strong data collection, management and reporting skills.
    Time management skills.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database management, social media and/or Email communication with the ability to learn additional programs.
    Ability to work with sensitive and confidential student information.

    Additional Desirable Qualifications

    Additional Desirable Qualifications:
    Applied experience with the graduate research, research publication, or grant-writing processes.
    Familiarity with academic and student personnel policies and procedures, particularly with respect to graduate admissions and student retention; experience with program assessment and benchmarking.
