Research and Development Director directs and implements an organization's research and development policies, objectives, and initiatives. Ensures research and development activities will maintain an organization's competitive position and profitability. Being a Research and Development Director consults with top management and research and development team and makes recommendations based on research findings and product performance. May require an advanced degree. Additionally, Research and Development Director typically reports to top management. The Research and Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Research and Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Research Associate I or II – Gerencser lab

  • POSITION SUMMARY

    The Gerencser lab at the Buck Institute is looking for a Research Associate to perform experiments and support the lab as an integral team member. The lab uses cell biology, advanced microscopy, and single-cell gene expression techniques to address fundamental questions about mitochondrial function in health and aging. A current focus is the regulation of mitochondrial function in pancreatic β-cells in human type 2 diabetes.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    Education and Experience

    ·         BA/BS in Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field (for RA I level) plus 2 years of relevant technical laboratory experience (for RA II level)

    ·         Knowledge of and practical experience with basic biochemistry and cell biology

    ·         Cell culture experience

    Other Skills
    ·         Strong motivation to perform research
    ·         Excellent technical and problem-solving ability

    ·         Precise attention to detail and accuracy

    ·         Works well with other scientists under general supervision and independently

    ·         Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skillsThe RA will receive full training in specialized aspects of the work

    COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
    • The salary range for RAI is $50,000 – $65,000 and for RAII is $65,000 - $85,000 commensurate with relevant education/experience.
