Research and Development Engineer jobs in Grand Rapids, MI

This position within the department is responsible for design and development of electrical and electromechanical products in the Viking portfolio, assisting other engineers from an electrical / electromechanical perspective and working together with our global team to grow the Viking electrical offerings.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyzes and leads design, development and cross listing projects as assigned by the supervisor.
• Provide electrical and electromechanical expertise as support for other Minimax Viking projects.
• Coordinates with Viking business and engineering teams to develop integration strategy for new products.
• Assists global team with obtaining UL and FM approval on their projects as requested.
• Works with Viking internal business teams to introduce more electrical products to portfolio.
• Corresponds with approval agency personnel and vendors.
• Has working knowledge of approval standards, company manuals, and other test literature.
• Has knowledge of engineering schematics, wiring diagrams, and operating instructions and interprets requirements.
• Design test samples or prototypes using CAD and 3D modeling.
• Prepares project logs; writes reports, procedures, work orders, laboratory test requests, material requisitions, purchase order, bill of materials, and engineering change requests.
• Operates machines and uses instruments to perform tests and measure parts.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Additional education or experience in Mechanical Engineering.
• CAD experience.
• Minimum 5 years experience in Electrical Engineering related field.
• Proven leadership of product integrations or launching of projects.
• Demonstrated creative problem solving skills, strong critical thinking skills, good communication skills and a high attention to detail.
• Proactive problem solving ability, including thinking objectively through various options and scenarios using sound engineering judgement.
