Research and Development Manager manages and directs the research and development programs to meet organizational needs and to capitalize on potential new products. Develops and implements research and development procedures and techniques. Being a Research and Development Manager oversees complex research projects, analyzes results and provides recommendations based on findings. Assesses the scope of research projects and ensures they are on time and within budget. Additionally, Research and Development Manager may require an advanced degree. Typically reports to a head of unit/director. The Research and Development Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. To be a Research and Development Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Master's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), Social Science, or Public Health. Two years of experience developing or writing proposals to/for federal, state, or local agencies. May substitute a terminal degree for required experience on a one-for-one basis.
Job Description:
To provide grant proposal development expertise to faculty members and research personnel to enable competitive individual and team extramural research funding and facilitate research excellence in collaboration with the Office of Strategic Research Development. May support faculty in a single department, or across multiple departments and/or center(s) in all phases of the research proposal process.
Specific Job Related Duties:
Supports faculty in multiple departments and/or center(s) in all phases of the research proposal process, including but not limited to ideation, planning and editing. Collaborates with other research entities and private businesses to coordinate, develop, fund, and implement research projects.
Salary Range: $70,000 to $95,000; actual salary commensurate with experience.
