This position is responsible for partnering with students to successfully navigate college is the mission of Academic Advising at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Academic advisors at UCCS accomplish this mission by providing high quality, personalized, and comprehensive advising to degree seeking students from orientation through graduation. Advisors partner with students and the campus community to empower students to take ownership of their education and be successful in college. Advisors support and challenge students in their learning and development by:

    • Providing practical and developmental guidance that respects each student’s individual path.
    • Facilitating student exploration and navigation of educational and personal goals.
    • Developing strategies for student success in college and connecting students to opportunities and resources available for their growth.
    • Helping students to develop self-authorship and personal responsibility and to value higher education as they engage in their educational journey.

    Academic Advising facilitates the university’s academic mission by providing essential services for students including academic advising, career development, student advocacy, and degree audit. In doing so, this position provides academic advising for undergraduate students and advises new students at orientations.

    Job Duties:

    • Contribute to the Academic Advising team by abiding by team norms, taking responsibility for keeping current on technical knowledge and sharing it with others, accomplishing tasks affecting other team members in a timely manner, and representing the Student Success Center in a professional way at all times.
    • Provide essential advising information to new students at orientations and help students get registered for their first semester of classes before the end of the orientation session.
    • Evaluate transfer credit from other colleges for application toward undergraduate degree programs by determining how the transfer courses equate to our requirements.
    • Work closely with academic and other departments, while providing outstanding customer service.
    • Determine how to best facilitate the student’s success and development, and provide advising that improves overall student retention.
    • Provide academic advising to undergraduate students by analyzing student’s career and academic goals, degree progress, deficiencies and test results, and by recommending appropriate course of action or referrals.

    Work Location: This position reports to campus with capability of part time remote. This will be determined with the supervisor.

    This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    What We Offer

    Salary Range: Generally starting at $46,500 - $52,310 per year, typically starts at $46,500 annually

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Tentative Search Timeline:

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • At least one year of full-time professional experience in advising college level students or other work in directly assisting students in supporting their educational and developmental needs.
      • Paraprofessional experience at the graduate level may be counted towards professional-level experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A master’s degree, either completed or in progress, in higher education or a related field of study OR two or more years of full-time professional-level higher education experience.
    • Direct academic advising experience or experience in a closely related field such as orientation, student transitions, retention programs or academic support.
    • Proficiency in Spanish.

    Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. Employee is occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
