    Team Description:
    The AI Foundations team plays a central role in bringing our vision for AI at Capital One to life. We work with product, technology, and business leaders to apply state-of-the-art AI to our business. From partnering with academia to building production systems, our work spans across the entire research life cycle.

    Role Description:
    As a Senior Distinguished Applied Researcher, you will drive strategic direction by collaborating with Applied Science, Engineering, and Product leaders. In this individual contributor role, you will guide and mentor a team of applied scientists without direct people management responsibilities. You will also represent Capital One within the research community and collaborate with esteemed faculty members.

    Responsibilities:
    - Partner with cross-functional teams to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions with their finances.
    - Utilize a wide range of technologies to extract insights from large volumes of numeric and textual data.
    - Build AI foundation models from design to implementation, including training, evaluation, and validation.
    - Engage in impactful applied research to advance customer experiences using the latest AI developments.
    - Translate complex work into tangible business goals using strong interpersonal skills.

    Qualifications:
    - Strong analytical and decision-making skills with customer needs in mind.
    - A passion for research and evaluation of emerging technologies.
    - Ability to think creatively and find solutions to undefined problems.
    - Leadership abilities and dedication to talent development.
    - Proficiency in open-source languages and experience with AI foundation models.
    - Deep understanding of AI methodologies and experience with deep learning models.
    - Track record of delivering models at scale and contributing to existing products.
    - Strong publication record or projects in machine learning research.
    - Ability to independently pursue a research agenda and solve complex problems.
