(GEM) is seeking a User Experience (UX) Researcher to join our team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM, which provides integral mission support to the NNSA.     This position is full-time and will serve the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM. 


    Requirements: 
    • Bachelor’s Degree in technology, behavioral science, design, or related field and 4 years of relevant experience.
    • Thorough understanding of user-centered design and UX research methods and principles (user interviews, surveys, card sorting, usability testing, prototyping, etc.).
    • Experience designing, managing, and leading user research to uncover new insights and opportunities, understand current needs and wants, and test potential design solutions before marketing to our audience.
    • Understanding of web technologies (HTML5, CSS), tech stacks, and an ability to advise on UI designs.
    • Experience working on a product team and/or directly with web developers, designers, content creators, business stakeholders, and product managers.
    • Experience implementing multiple UX research methods, usability testing, user interviews, surveys, card sorting, and prototype testing.
    • Ability to create interactive prototypes using relevant design software.
    • Ability to work with, support, and advance LANL’s existing design systems, style guides, and web component libraries.
    • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and the capacity to understand and interpret technical and scientific concepts.
    • Personal project management experience in guiding strategic, multi-faceted, and iterative projects with a collaborative mindset.
    • Intermediate proficiency with mixed method design including quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
    • Intermediate proficiency in conducting evaluative and generative research through quantitative data mining, qualitative interviews, prototype testing, and surveys.
    • Intermediate proficiency in analyzing quantitative, qualitative, behavioral, and attitudinal data.
    • To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
    • Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.

    Overview:
    • Plans, develops, and produces a variety of two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) graphic design products for scientific and administrative publications, exhibits, and multimedia displays.
    • Specific duties include conducting communication needs assessments, interacting with customers to analyze and develop content, and advising customers on Lab publication policies and procedures.
    • Help drive the future of User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design at one of the world’s most prestigious and innovative multidisciplinary research institutions.
    • Join the Multimedia Production (CEA-MP) group at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) to inform, engage, and inspire LANL’s internal and external audiences through the creation of intuitive and innovative web experiences.
    • Participate in defining research questions and selecting appropriate methods for data collection.
    • Design and conduct research studies, analyze data, transform findings into easily understandable insights, and present your results.
    • Manage multiple studies simultaneously and presenting research findings to diverse audiences.
