    We are currently looking for a new medical assistant to join the team at one of our Florida practices, Academic Alliance in Dermatology (www.academicallderm.com). Academic Alliance in Dermatology, an affiliate of Anne Arundel Dermatology, has 23 locations throughout Southwest & Central Florida. For over 30 years, Academic Alliance in Dermatology has been providing patients with premier medical and cosmetic dermatology services. Led by renowned expert Dr. Panos Vasiloudes and backed by the most innovative and cutting-edge equipment, our team expertly diagnoses and treats a wide variety of dermatological conditions.

    Responsibilities

    • Escort patient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB. 
    • Obtain and record vital signs. 
    • Organize patient flow. 
    • Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions. 
    • Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan. 
    • Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed. 
    • Check to-dos/Nurse line. 
    • Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule.  Keep appropriate records of maintenance. 
    • Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records. 
    • Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked. 
    • Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.  
    • Document all medical instructions given to patients, thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable. 
    • Anesthesia/Inject for procedures. 
    • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner. 
    • Must maintain HIPAA compliance 

    Qualifications

    • Able to triage patient problems. 
    • Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards. 
    • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments. 
    • Experience administering injections. 
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes. 
    • Knowledge of office financial policies. 
    • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization. 
    • Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc) 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
    • Fluent in English 
    • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. 
    • Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors. 
    • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed 
    • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team 
    • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.   
    • Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.   

    Licensure/Certifications/Education

    Education and Experience: 

    • High School Graduate or GED. 
    • Medical Assistant Certification preferred. 
    • CPR certified preferred. 
    • Completion of a formal medical assistant program with internship. 
    • 1-2 years of recent experience as a medical assistant  
    • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred. 

     

    Physical Requirements: 

    • Standing and walking for extended periods of time 
    • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. 
    • Use of hands and fingers. 
    • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone. 
    • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. 
    • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. 
    • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
