    JOB TITLE:   

    Facilities Manager 

    JOB PURPOSE:

    Manage, plan, and coordinate activities concerned with the operation, repair, and maintenance of facilities and equipment to minimize interruption and improve efficiency.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manage the daily operations of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) facilities and building operations, including the Engineering Building (EN), the Engineering Education and Research Building (EERB), the Physical Sciences Building (PS), S.H. Knight and Earth Sciences, portions of Ross Hall, and auxiliary buildings.
    • Manage and plan best allocation and utilization of space and resources for CEPS facilities.  Organize and lead a committee for the allocation of space across departments. Understand buildings systems, utilities, and communications infrastructure. 
    • Act as liaison for major projects including renovation of existing space and moving of major equipment to ensure minimum disruption to core activities.  Act as a liaison with UW Operations for maintenance of building and grounds. Serve as primary point of contact for all construction, repair and maintenance personnel operating in CEPS facilities.  Assess that agreed work by university staff or outside contractors has been completed satisfactorily and follow up on any deficiencies. 
    • Respond appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise.
    • Inspect facilities and/or review inspection reports to determine repairs, replacement, improvements, or safety recommendations that may be required. Perform maintenance as practically possible.  Coordinate other minor facility maintenance and renovation projects with UW Operations. 
    • Hire, train, and supervises support staff in assigned area.
    • Coordinate purchases of building and maintenance supplies, machinery, equipment, and furniture. Perform periodic inventory review. 
    • Negotiate terms, execute, and administer multiple contracts with facility and equipment vendors for services, in accordance with budget constraints and UW policies and procedures.
    • Provide students, faculty, and staff with initial laboratory equipment support.  Troubleshoot lab equipment issues coordinate repairs/upgrades with suppliers/vendors.
    • Manage building security and access system(s).  Assist in coordinating building security and work with authorities in event of an investigation.  Work with support staff to authorize appropriate access to building occupants and track access changes. Perform biannual audit of user access in S2. Maintain Key Inventories.
    • Develop facility use procedures/policies.  Review and update as needed. 
    • Serve as CEPS College Safety Coordinator.  Act as the liaison with UW Environmental Health & Safety and UW Regulated Martials Management Center.   Ensure the CEPS facilities meet health and safety requirements and that facilities comply with legislation and university regulations.  Organize and lead the College Safety Committee. Coordinate and train departmental safety officers.  Directly oversee CEPS Chemical, Hygiene and Safety programs.

    SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field OR  equivalent education & experience
    • Experience:  4 years work-related experience
    • Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements: Valid driver's license

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Experience with contract negotiations and purchasing
    • Experience with space allocation and utilization

    • Experience with safety, laboratory support, and laboratory equipment
