Residential Counselors are the direct care staff on the units and are responsible for providing a safe structured environment for youth, who have been removed from their home on Abuse/Neglect, CHINS or Delinquency petitions. Staff facilitate and participate in a wide array of activities with the children to provide a sense of normalcy (including but not limited to sporting events, movies, painting pottery, arcades, lake trips, etc.)
Residential Counselors strive to create an atmosphere of what a positive, safe, and structured living environment should look like. Residential Counselors assist the youth and adolescents in developing positive coping mechanisms to deal with their past trauma, develop positive self-care rituals, learn and practice independent living skills such as healthy nutrition (meals are provided to staff!), laundry, healthy hygiene habits, etc. Residential Counselors engage the youth and adolescents in positive social interactions through playing games together, doing arts & crafts together, or simply spending down-time together socializing in the group setting.
