    Description

    Job Summary: Director of Clinical Education 

    The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) is responsible to the Program Director for the integration of clinical education with didactic education including: DCE is responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the RT program. This includes but not limited to: supervision of student-related clinical instructor activities; scheduling and maintenance of records pertaining to student clinical assignments; and maintain student files relative to completion of clinical requirements. The purpose of the Respiratory Therapy Director of Clinical Education is to insure clinical sites for the educational experiences of the respiratory therapy students. It is the responsibility of the DCE to prepare the students for their clinical experience.

    Additionally, the DCE has faculty responsibilities including student advisement, classroom and clinical teaching, and evaluation of student clinical competence.

    Functions:

    1. Scheduling/Coordination of student clinical and lab hours.
    2. Scheduling of clinical instructors/preceptors at clinical sites.
    3. Regular and continuous verification that students are meeting their clinical objectives.
    4. Be available in person, by phone or other methods of communication at any time a student is in clinical, to solve problems as they arise.
    5. Develop and implement processes that reduce inconsistency among individuals who perform clinical evaluations. (see CoARC standard 3.07 inter-rater reliability)
    6. Maintain clinical affiliates by quarterly visits to all clinical sites on a scheduled basis as approved by the Program Director.
    7. Maintains up to date shot records, TB skin testing and Criminal Background checks to assure compliance.
    8. Abides by the Faculty Duties and Responsibilities noted in the Southeast Arkansas College Faculty Handbook.
    9. Attend monthly Faculty meetings with Program Director to include organization, administration, continuous review and revision of curriculum.
    10. Attend NAH divisional meetings
    11. Attends SEARK Professional Development as required.
    12. Attend local and state respiratory society and other respiratory care community functions when not conflicting with school duties.
    13. Attend all RT program pinning and graduation ceremonies
    14. Participates in SEARK committees.
    15. Prepares and submits a variety of special and recurring reports and statistics to inform the program director, administration and appropriate outside agencies of the Respiratory Therapist Program's performance.
    16. Maintains appropriate professional and community contacts. This may include serving on various advisory boards, and local, state, or national committees to promote the SEARK’s mission and the image of the Respiratory Therapist Program.
    17. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a 12 month full-time contract.

The College also provides a tuition waiver for the employee and dependents.

    Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

    The Respiratory Therapy Director of Clinical Education must have knowledge of the respiratory field and the clinical application of the classroom knowledge.

    The Respiratory Therapy DCE must have problem solving skills with critical thinking a major component of his/her ability.

    Organization and time management skills are required.The knowledge and skills of computer applications have become an essential component of performing the duties required of the Respiratory Therapy Director of Clinical Education.

    Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum of a Master's degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
    • Hold a valid RRT credential from an accredited respiratory care program.
    • Hold a current Arkansas state license for Respiratory Therapy.
    • Have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with a least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
    • Have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary for effective collaboration with faculty, staff, students, university administration, affiliating agencies, and the community.
    • Analytical skills necessary to assist in the development of sound budgets and policies and the evaluation of all aspects of the Respiratory Therapist program.
    • Certification and Instructor credentials in BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP.

    Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). Hold a valid RRT credential from an accredited respiratory care program. Recent teaching experience at a CoARC accredited program.
