Respiratory Therapist - Home Care works in a home care environment and assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Respiratory Therapist - Home Care treats patients with pressure breathing, mechanical ventilation, positive pressure breathing, humidity/medicated aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, pulmonary drainage procedures, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is an impairment. Additionally, Respiratory Therapist - Home Care operates oxygen and other therapeutic gas and mist equipment. Requires a credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Requires an associate's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Respiratory Therapist - Home Care's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.     We are looking for a Respiratory Therapist for Home Care. Within this role, you will provide assessment, treatment, care, and evaluation for home care patients with respiratory insufficiencies. 


    Your primary duties will include but are not limited to: 
    • Assessing patients for appropriate type and frequency of treatment. 
    • Directing respiratory staff for delivery of care.  
    • Monitoring, recording, and communicating patients conditions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assesses patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on diagnosis.
    • Directs respiratory staff for delivery of care.
    • Implements and monitors patient care plan.
    • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
    • Performs advanced respiratory care modalities.
    • Evaluates respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.
    • Educates the patient and family about the illness and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.

    Certifications:

    • Ohio Respiratory Care Board licensure.

    • Registered Respiratory Therapist or Certified Respiratory Therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care.

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).

    • Valid Ohio driver’s license. 

    Complexity of Work:

    • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

    Work Experience:

    • Prior experience in critical care preferred.
    • Neonatal/pediatric experience preferred when appropriate for site.
    • Prior experience performing invasive procedures preferred when appropriate for site.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Able to sit or stand the majority of a work day.
    • Requires full range of motion. Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Personal Protective Equipment:

    • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
