Respiratory Therapist - Home Care works in a home care environment and assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Respiratory Therapist - Home Care treats patients with pressure breathing, mechanical ventilation, positive pressure breathing, humidity/medicated aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, pulmonary drainage procedures, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is an impairment. Additionally, Respiratory Therapist - Home Care operates oxygen and other therapeutic gas and mist equipment. Requires a credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Requires an associate's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Position Summary:
The Certified Respiratory Therapist performs patient care under the direction of the department leader. Provides therapeutic and administrative services necessary for the care of the patient.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Delegates tasks appropriately to ancillary personnel.
• Performs all clinical respiratory therapy skills according to established policy and procedure.
• Performs respiratory patient assessment appropriate for age-specific and culturally oriented.
• Assesses, provides and documents patient/family education.
• Documents respiratory care on patient records consistent with written guidelines.
• Provides respiratory care for patients requiring elective/emergency procedures.
• Uses St. Claire resources and equipment for patient respiratory care efficiently.
• Prepares and administers respiratory therapy medications according to established policy and procedure.
Education:
Graduate from a school of Respiratory Therapy.
Experience:
Previous respiratory therapy experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Must be certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and hold a current license from the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care (KBRC). Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended.
