Respiratory Therapist - Home Care works in a home care environment and assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Respiratory Therapist - Home Care treats patients with pressure breathing, mechanical ventilation, positive pressure breathing, humidity/medicated aerosol therapy, medical gas administration, pulmonary drainage procedures, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is an impairment. Additionally, Respiratory Therapist - Home Care operates oxygen and other therapeutic gas and mist equipment. Requires a credential of Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Requires an associate's degree. Typically reports to a manager. JOB SUMMARY
Provides respiratory therapy designed to stabilize, prevent or remedy patient respiratory problems. Arranges and
operates a variety of oxygen and other therapeutic gas and aerosolized, meter dosed, or powdered medications to
patients. Operates various mechanical devices that aide in the recovery of patients. Cleans and checks equipment.

JOB DUTIES
1. Actively demonstrates the organization's mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner

2. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.
3. Reads and interprets physicians' orders to determine treatment requirements including type and duration of
therapy, medication, dosages, and ventilator settings.
4. Confers with patients and/or family members to obtain pertinent patient information during assessment including
history of respiratory problems, current medication, patient pulse rate and the like. Reviews patients' chart to
obtain blood-gas report and other pertinent information.
5. Explains treatment procedures to patient and/ or family members to alleviate fears and elicit cooperation.
6. Checks equipment for proper set-up, functioning and settings, and verifies physicians' orders before initiating
procedures and treatments.
7. Prepares medications according to prescription/order and adds to device.
8. Observes patients during therapy, instructs patient in breathing pattern and reports any abnormalities to physician.
Documents treatment activities and results in patient record (i.e. treatment type, medication, HR, PR, BS, cough,
and so on).
JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
Education: Graduate of an AMA accredited program.
Licensure: Currently holding a License in Respiratory Therapy from the State of Indiana. Must hold minimum CRT
credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care.
Experience: Experience desired in Critical Care, NICU, Open Heart Recovery, and Bronchoscopy.
