Respiratory Therapy Director directs the programs and staff of the respiratory therapy department. Oversees the provision of diagnostic, treatment, and educational services for patients with respiratory disorders. Being a Respiratory Therapy Director develops and implements respiratory care services in accordance with the policies of the hospital and the directives of the medical staff. Monitors patient progress and treatment plans. Additionally, Respiratory Therapy Director manages departmental budgets and reports, and maintains department records and statistics. Requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist. The Respiratory Therapy Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Responsible for full complement of daily management of operations. Works in conjunction with medical staff, cardiology leads, and clinical staff with a variety of clinical backgrounds. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience Two years' experience in leadership / management positions Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technological and fiscal resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner. Knowledge and coaching skills to facilitate integration of performance improvement and employee engagement tools and techniques throughout the department. Ability to analyze, evaluate and problem solve effectively; familiarity with the application of computers in data analysis, and use of data based decision making methodologies; proven ability to build positive relationships with key stakeholders. Provides oversight and direction to the areas of responsibility to support the prioritization and development of key initiatives Assures that department is in compliance with regulatory compliance (e.g. JCAHO, CMS, payers etc.) Advises administrative staff on interventions to improve clinical, process, operational and service outcomes.
