Respiratory Therapy Supervisor supervises, organizes, and coordinates the clinical and technical aspects of services rendered to ensure the delivery of quality respiratory therapy treatment. Specific duties may include: counseling staff members about appropriate procedures and policies, performing therapeutic procedures, running quality control tests on all blood gas analyzers, and maintaining equipment. Being a Respiratory Therapy Supervisor is responsible for the administration of oxygen, therapeutic gas, and respiratory medications to patients in accordance with physician orders. Develops, implements, and controls the provision of therapeutic patient care services. Additionally, Respiratory Therapy Supervisor plans and coordinates the daily work activities of respiratory therapists in accordance with hospital policies and the directives of medical staff. Ensures that all policies and procedures are followed according to the facility and department. Requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Job Summary
The Director of Clinical Education- Respiratory Instructor oversees all aspects of clinical experiences for Respiratory Care students. They collaborate with program leaders to design objectives, ensure adequate procedures for learning, and assess student progress. They also maintain communication with faculty, students, and clinical affiliates.
Job Duties:
• The Director of Clinical Education must be responsible for organization, administration,
continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences
for students enrolled in the respiratory care program.
• The Director of Clinical Education must have regular and consistent contact with students,
faculty, and clinical affiliates regardless of program location.
• In cooperation with the Program Director, the Clinical Coordinator designs, related to the
clinical instructors, and evaluates the behavioral objectives for the clinical practice courses.
• Coordinates the clinical teaching of students by assuring that the number of procedures is
appropriate for the attainment of the clinical behavioral objective.
• In cooperation with the Program & Medical Director, evaluates the quality of supervision and
instruction in the clinical rotations. Ensures that the didactic and clinical portions of the
curriculum give appropriate emphasis to the medical management and evaluation of
conditions the technician is expected to treat.
• In cooperation with the Medical Director, secures physician cooperation in the development
of student-physician contacts to provide the medical instruction of the diseases and
treatment modalities associated with Respiratory Therapy.
• Provides input to the Program Director with correlation between the classroom and clinical
aspects of the curriculum. Helps to develop methods of assessing student progress in the
clinical practice courses and develops remedial materials and methods. Also, provides
schedules to the students and clinical rotations to see that classes, laboratories, patient and
physician contacts, conferences, case studies, and other educational events take place and
at the appropriate sequence in the curriculum.
• Reports to the Program Director problems related to the educational process and to the
Medical Director problems related to correlations between classroom and clinical rotations.
Minimum Qualifications:
• The Director of Clinical Education must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist
(RRT) credential and hold such professional license or certificate as is required by the state in which he or she is employed.
• The Director of Clinical Education must have earned at least an associate degree from
an academic institution accredited by a regular or national accrediting agency that is
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE). Selected candidate must be willing to obtain a baccalaureate degree within two years of hire.
• The Director of Clinical Education must have a minimum of four (4) years experience as a
Registered Respiratory Therapist; of which at least two (2) years must include clinical
respiratory care.
• The Director of Clinical Education must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
• The selected candidate subject to approval by CoARC.
