Home to a Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator, the Wine Director will be responsible for maintaining and progressing Common's wine program through building relationships with purveyors to ensure educated purchasing; team education; public events and outreach; and ensuring proper storage, serving, and preserving conditions and techniques, including the maintenance of two wine cellars. The Wine Director will also extend their wine knowledge by researching and understanding industry trends; obtaining additional certifications; and attending tastings and events.
The position will also be part of the Special Events Team, collaborating with the Event Curator on both private and public events, including wine maker dinners. This position will be expected to show initiative in creating and executing wine centric events in two event spaces with a concentration on retail wine sales and must be able to effectively coordinate and communicate with the Event Curator, Executive Chefs, General Managers, and hourly team members.
The successful candidate must have effective communication and organizational skills; excellent public speaking ability; the desire and willingness to educate front of house team members on wine and wine service; the ability to work with a diverse population of guests; the ability to remain calm under pressure; developed listening skills; and must possess a genuine commitment to hospitality. The Wine Director must be able to be on their feet for long periods of time without a break; walk up and down flights of stairs, sometimes multiple times a day; squat, twist, kneel, bend at the waist, and lift overhead. This position also requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and to climb a ladder.
The Wine Director position offers a base salary in addition to a commission-based compensation structure with compensation based on a percentage of wine sales both in events and in the restaurant. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of driving sales growth through effective marketing strategies, customer relationship management, and professional partnership development.
This position is located in SAVANNAH, GA, and the selected candidate must relocate to Savannah. A relocation stipend is offered and negotiable upon hire.
