Salt Life is seeking a Store Manager to join the team in our Long Branch, NJ (Pier Village) location. The Store Manager is a creative, energetic and confident Salt Life brand ambassador. In this role, the Store Manager will have excellent leadership skills and responsible for creation of positive work environment to deliver an amazing Salt Life experience to every customer. The Store Manager will excel at developing, coaching and inspiring the team to reach sales goals. The Store Manager will ensure operations runs smoothly and efficiently to maximize profits by controlling expenses.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Sales
- Constantly strive to achieve and exceed store sales goals.
- Utilize and manage the use of weekly and monthly sales reports to track, analyze and communicate business results, as well as determine strategies to maximize sales.
Customer Service
- Demonstrate high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude and teamwork with customers, peers and management team.
- Deliver exceptional customer service through taking ownership of the sales floor and handling customers with issues and complaints.
- Accountable for consistently leading and developing a highly efficient, customer focused team:
Empower associates to make decision in the customer’s best interest that also supports Salt Life philosophy.
Manage and assess performance through consistent feedback and documentation of performance, coaching and creating developmental plans.
Continuously motivates team to meet and exceed sales and productivity goals.
- Develop a team with strong product knowledge and communicate this information to customers in a clear and concise way.
- Cultivate a positive relationship with the community via personal involvement, PR events, social media and advertising opportunities.

- Ensure the team is providing guests Salt Life customer service:
Say a friendly greeting within 30 seconds upon customer entering the store
Ask open ended questions to understand the situation or request

Invite customer to try on product in the dressing room and be attentive
Finalize sale by walking customer to the cash wrap
End with a smile, thank you and invitation to return
Operations
- Maintain regular and timely communication with the District Manager.
- Perform all financial activities efficiently and in accordance with company standards, including cash handling, reporting, price changes and inventory.
- Ensure cash control procedures are properly followed including; all transactions, bank deposits, till funds and petty cash.
- Open/close the store ensuring completion of all tasks and checklists.
- Ensure the cash wrap is organized, clean and efficiently operating at all times.
- Process all point of sale (POS) transactions accurately and in accordance with company policy.
- Maintain supplies at an appropriate level while controlling expenses.
- Maintain an organized stockroom/break room/office area.
- Report maintenance issues to the District Manager.
- Flexible in the event of scheduling, including, nights, weekends, associate and customer emergencies.
- Create the employee work schedule, communicate, and post in store at least two weeks in advance.
Inventory Management and Merchandising
- Ensure all incoming and outgoing shipments are properly processed.
- Submit weekly product replenishment requests.
- Demonstrate in depth product knowledge.
- Ensure accuracy of store promotions and merchandise markdowns.
- Present during preparation and execution of annual physical inventories.
- Execute seasonal floor sets and ensure product presentation, signage and lighting follows Salt Life merchandising standards and guidelines.
- Maintain a strong visual impact:
Mannequins are fully dressed and styled.
Displays are in exceptional condition.
Merchandise sized and organized according to company standards.
Identify and communicate product/fixture concerns to the District Manager.
Maintain folding and hanging guidelines.
Human Resources
- Ensure the team understands, support and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Review and process employee timesheets; verify accuracy of hours worked and ensure payroll approved on time and in correct manner.
- Ensure employee files are up to date.
- Ensure employee image standards are reflective of the Salt Life dress code and adhered to at all time.
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, motivate and coach store team:Communicate staffing needs to the Director of HR.
Complete new hire checklist.
Conduct performance evaluations and corrective actions.
Promote a positive work environment where all employees are treated fairly, respectfully and equally.
Loss Prevention and Safety
- Protect the store funds, property, employees and customers by complying to and enforcing all loss prevention and safety principles, policies and procedures.
- Perform all financial activities efficiently and in accordance with company standards, including cash handling and reporting, price changes, and merchandise handling.
- Maintain safety requirements to ensure safe working and shopping environment.
- Evaluate store environment to assess risk.
- Communicate all loss prevention and safety related concerns or incidents to the District Manager/Director of HR.
- Ensure employees are not abusing Employee Discount.
- Process all damaged merchandise according to policy.
- Log missing merchandise and found tags per policy.
Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma, GED, or equivalent education preferred.
- College degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a retail environment with minimum 3 years in a management role.
- Strong leadership and customer management skills.
- A proactive and entrepreneurial sense of urgency and ability to prioritize.
- Excellent communication, organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work store sales floor for extended periods.
- Able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Ability to lift at least 30 lbs., carry, push, squat, kneel, twist, turn, reach and bend.
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office
- Ability to quickly learn operation of retail point of sale system
- Valid driver’s license is required
Internal promotions to this position may possibly be considered without having met all experience requirements listed. This will be based on the depth, length and success of experience while working at Salt Life.
