    Job Summary

    The Retail Assistant Manager is directly responsible for the general operation and security of the Tech Zone, while maintaining good customer relations.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • CUSTOMER SERVICE Sell merchandise to customers by modeling and coaching outstanding customer service behaviors on the sales floor, assist customers and field product questions from both individual and departmental customers. Educate staff (and constituents) and advise store managers and personnel on hardware systems and software. Resolve customer service issues and solve problems.
    • HIRE/TRAIN/SUPERVISE STUDENTS AND FULL-TIME STAFF Interview, hire, and train student employees and full-time staff. Coach, inspire, and evaluate the performance of sales, students, and technical staff. Set schedules for Tech Zone; plan and execute store opening and store closing schedule on a rotational basis with other staff.
    • PRODUCT AND INVENTORY Conduct research to provide an optimal mix of products in the Tech Zone. Collaborate with procurement for the purchase, sale, and receipt of merchandise; determine retail price of merchandise and maintain proper gross margins. Maintain a complete set of inventory records by vendor, for each item purchased in the store. Control inventory levels for both individual items and total inventory using sales reports, inventory records, and turnover figures to maximize sales while maintaining adequate stock levels. Execute markups/markdowns within department. Handle requests for individual and group special orders. Create and submit all required Apple sales and inventory reports, and marketing plans. is responsible for the receipt and control of Tech Zone inventory, including executing annual inventory over Spring Break Establish operational procedures involved in receiving, unpacking, checking, pricing, and selling of merchandise.
    • POS/OPERATIONS Execute daily reading of registers, opening and closing procedures; verifies reserve and change funds and obtains change, wraps coin and currency. Draws starting cash balance for self or other staff in the work unit; make periodic checks during the workday to determine if sufficient change is available at each register; researches and verifies over charges or other register errors. Collect daily receipts from operators at the end of the workday; verify unit's cash balance against total receipts; deposit cash in accordance with unit regulations. Budget preparation for Tech Zone.
    • OTHER Perform other duties and additional responsibilities as assigned to help further the mission of the unit.


    Additional Physical Demands

    • Most work will be accomplished in a typical office work environment but will include visits to the sales floor and storage area.
    • Bending and stooping are involved when taking or checking inventory.
    • Extended work hours with abbreviated lunches and breaks are required during the peak periods.
    • Position involves working effectively under pressure with numerous interruptions and on many projects simultaneously.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or equivalent.
    Two (2) years (24 months) of experience in a retail environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Associate degree in any field or concentration including general studies.
    One (1) year (12 months) supervisory experience in a retail environment.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of current technologies, instructional technologies, hardware & software, instructional design and procedures; as well as a firm grasp of the seasonal cycle of how technology products sell in a university environment.
    • Knowledge of inventory management systems or POS systems.
    • Also, vast product knowledge is essential within this position. Failure to purchase the right items at the correct time will lead to customer dissatisfaction and loss of sales. Improper ordering will also lead to either out-of-stock situations or will lead to problems with excessive inventory.
    • The ability to work with diverse students, faculties, and other constituents in the University community is a must.

    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3879 - Retail Assistant Manager position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 11/10/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience. Salary is commensurate with experience, with the minimum salary at $40,000.00 per year. This position will usually follow a work schedule of Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm, there may be evening and weekends required based on operational needs.
