Essential Duties:
- Collects real property taxes, personal property taxes, and monies for
mosquito spraying, demotion and other liens at the finance office window and
via the mail;
- Assists mortgage companies, banks, realtors, and other agencies with
collection of taxes;
- Answers numerous taxpayer phone calls regarding tax status on properties,
including payments, assessments, and tax sales;
- Answers all incoming phone calls to the Finance Department;
- Serves as back-up for processing of business license applications and
transferring of properties for Attorney’s and Title companies;
- Enters daily receipts into computer, reconciling cash and check receipts to
individual drawers;
- Forwards monies to Bank Assurance Officer;
- Processes redemption of tax sales; and
- Writes letters to taxpayers, mortgage companies, etc. and maintains copies
and records of such.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Familiarity with Maryland tax structure;
- Bank Teller experience;
- Working knowledge of banking and accounting procedures;
- Must understand principles of real estate taxation & tax sale code;
- Ability to maintain a Cash Drawer with little to no variances;
- Working knowledge of accounting procedures;
- Ability to understand and carry out detailed instructions;
- Ability to operate a wide variety of office equipment;
- Proficient personal computer skills using accounting software;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work well with a wide variety of people and deal calmly with taxpayers;
- Must be a team player. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
