Revenue Cycle Director directs and oversees the overall policies, objectives, and initiatives of an organization's revenue cycle activities to optimize the patient financial interaction along the care continuum. Reviews, designs, and implements processes surrounding admissions, pricing, billing, third party payer relationships, compliance, collections, and other financial analyses to ensure that clinical revenue cycle is effective and properly utilized. Being a Revenue Cycle Director tracks numerous metrics related to the patient engagement cycle including record coding error rates and billing turnaround times to develop sound revenue cycle analysis and reporting. Manages relations with payers and providers to generate high reimbursement rates and a low level of denials. Additionally, Revenue Cycle Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Revenue Cycle Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Revenue Cycle Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Position will be responsible for managing various elements of revenue cycle service delivery including process, policy, performance, compliance, and quality.  Areas of focus will include direct responsibility for managerial oversight of revenue cycle staff, enhancing productivity, maintaining quality, and leading divisional continuous improvement initiatives.  Initial priorities to include establishment / evolution of metrics used to track employee and division performance and assessment of current business practices.  As a senior leader in the organization, position will be expected to contribute to both divisional and organizational strategy and positively influence company culture and overall performance.         
     
     
    Responsibilities:
    • Directly oversee multiple managers of billing, posting, and collection staff.
    • Recruit, coach, develop, and performance manage, ensuring that direct reports effectively do same.
    • Continuously evaluate performance of functional division, initiating change as necessary and appropriate to ensure high levels of efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Ensure compliance with defined process, policy and compliance with applicable regulation.
    • Provide management oversight and support in pursuit of client onboarding, client implementation, and long-term growth strategy.
    • Development of strategic long and short-range plans, and related business plans along with providing operational and tactical leadership in support of these strategies.
    • Build and maintain positive working relationships through open communication, collaboration, and transparency with a diverse group of stakeholders.
    • Maintain effective communication and provide progress updates including but not limited to project plans, timelines, and reports to the key stakeholders using various presentation methods.
    • Evaluate regularly the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements.
    • Identify areas of opportunity to promote company's capabilities and appropriate cross-selling of services.
    • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics, developing and evolving measures of performance as appropriate and necessary.
    • Build and maintain relationships along with influence outside of the reporting channel through effective management both up and down.  
    • Deliver unprecedented client service, able to access situations and ensure the appropriate response is achieved. 
    • Identify and implement KPI’s, utilize metrics for reporting and analysis to ensure successful performance.   
    • Consistently seek, deliver, and implement best practices and contribute realistic expectations of what success looks like to the leadership team.
    • Provide leadership, problem solving, and resilience to develop and maintain a culture of trust, accountability, and transparency.
    • Maintains professional affiliations and participates professional development to keep current in the latest healthcare trends and developments.
    • Performs other duties as required or assigned.  
     
     
    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field. 
    • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in healthcare revenue cycle execution including minimum of three to five years in a leadership role overseeing management staff.
    • Direct experience in physician office billing and collection activity with exposure and experience in inpatient setting considered positive.
    • In depth knowledge of revenue cycle business functions and principals including experience with, and exposure to, relevant technology platforms.  
    • Superior analytic and problem-solving skills, supporting strategic and operational planning.
    • Demonstrated exposure to, and understanding of, relevant measures of performance.
    • Experience in leading change and organizational improvement.
    • Demonstrated competency in area of process improvement.
    • Strong client service orientation (external and internal).
    • Knowledge and experience successfully leading multifaceted implementation projects simultaneously. 
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with frequent change and maintain demanding timelines.
    • Ability to operationalize a vision, create a workplan which outlines tactical steps and realistic timelines to achieve the vision.
    • Capability to plan, organize, and integrate simultaneous priorities and deadlines, while maintaining attention to detail. 
    • Ability to react calmly and effectively in high stress or delicate situations.
    • Aptitude for recruiting performing team members and leading diverse teams to accomplish well-defined outcomes while inspiring confidence and motivation.
    • Familiarity with, and experience managing compliance to, relevant regulatory standards.
    • Ability to independently work in an ambiguous environment, creating structure, identifying required roles and assigning responsibilities, holding stakeholders to deadlines. 
    • Demonstrates resiliency to redirect when necessary based on new information and/or changes in priorities. 
    • Demonstrated excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills. 
    • Ability to confidently and appropriately articulate complex information in a manner which is easy to comprehend. 
    • Practical experience in merger integration (employees and systems) not required, but considered positive.
    • Excellent skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
