Rigger facilitates the movement and positioning of heavy equipment, materials and cargo. Sets up rigging, slings, pulleys, winches, dollies and ropes to safely maneuver loads. Being a Rigger coordinates moving activities with others using hand or other signals. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Rigger may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.     The Rigger is responsible for ensuring that material is loaded and unloaded in a safe and efficient manner.  

     

    Duties and responsibilities

     

    • Handle and check incoming and outgoing shipments.
    • Check products for defects and accuracy.
    • Ensure posting of outbound deliveries using pre-designated software.
    • Organize packaging procedures to ensure safety of shipment.
    • Ensure that serial and batch numbers match the product.
    • Process customers’ orders by ensuring that the right shipment is on its way.
    • Report and replace any defective item prior to packing.
    • Selecting the appropriate gear to secure loads for crane movement (Chains, Straps, Shackles, and Chokers)
    • Preparing rigging equipment including beams, pulleys, clamps, and bolts
    • Prepare and paste labels on shipments.
    • Prepare invoices and delivery orders.
    • Ensure that all transactions are recorded in company database. Verify accuracy of orders by matching them with quantities and types.
    • Make sure that items are loaded onto shipment vehicle in a safe and timely manner.
    • Wrap and prepare cranes for shipment by covering electrical panels, bundling and securing wiring, ensuring loose parts are boxed and ready to ship; operate overhead crane to load crane that’s going to be shipped.
    • Ability to determine product load capability by size and weight to fit specific truck dimensions
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

     

    Qualifications include:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Forklift certification (Preferred).
    • Good mathematical and precision skills
    • Ability to learn and demonstrate basic crane hand signals
    • Experience in the crane or heavy equipment manufacturing industry preferred.
    • Must possess basic computer knowledge that includes the ability to operate a keyboard and navigate between screens within a computer application.

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities

     

    This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities

     

    Working conditions

     

    Work is normally performed in a factory setting near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud. Frequently works from an elevated position (i.e. on a ladder, on top of cranes, etc.).

     

    Physical requirements

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear.

     

    The employee must regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
