Rigger facilitates the movement and positioning of heavy equipment, materials and cargo. Sets up rigging, slings, pulleys, winches, dollies and ropes to safely maneuver loads. Being a Rigger coordinates moving activities with others using hand or other signals. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Additionally, Rigger may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. JOB DESCRIPTION
A rigger is responsible for moving extra-heavy equipment, machinery, and materials that are impossible to be moved through conventional methods. A rigger makes use of cranes and lifts to help transport heavy equipment, machinery, or large heavy cargo such as manufacturing equipment or construction machinery.
JOB SUMMARY
Assess items to develop a lifting and moving strategy to Lift and move extremely large or heavy objects on a regular basis (a minimum of 50 pounds) Properly select gear for each job to avoid injury to self and others and avoid damage to freight and machinery Inspect rigging equipment to ensure it is in good working order Attach and detach loads with all safety rules and regulations Safely maneuver loads through difficult and confined spaces Examine tool and equipment needed for each job on a daily or as needed basis Monitor, fix and replace tools and equipment as needed
Report and escalate all concerns/situations to management immediately Be able to operate machinery including but not limited to forklift, pallet jack, telehandler and similar equipment.
