NAVIGATOR, HOUSING SERVICES
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To conduct in-person outreach, screening, intake, client document collection, and enrollment into United Way programming with a focus on Housing and Summit County NEXT through the Family Resource Centers within Akron Public Schools. Provide an in-person presence at all UW Family Resource Center locations approximately 1 day a week at each school.
CORE RESPONSABILITIES:
- Outreach: Conduct outreach to Akron Public Schools families through the Family Resource Centers (FRCs) at Akron Public Schools and other neighborhood events. Proactively engage families during pick-up/drop-off, school and community events, and by phone and walk-in hours at each FRC. Work collaboratively with the FRC Coordinators and school personnel to follow up with families; and build positive relationships with families; engage clients until successfully enrolled in internal or external programs.
- Screening and Intake: Meet with individual families identified through outreach and Project Rise to better understand their needs and screen them for UW programs. Assist in completing applications, income certifications, and gathering required documents to determine eligibility for programming. Work in collaboration with Housing staff to determine appropriate assistance. Maintain engagement with client until successful handoff to assigned program staff. Be accessible to participants who walk in for needed services and information.
- Documentation and Recordkeeping: Complete all intake documentation and processes required by multiple program funders, including timelines for submission of paperwork. Enter intake information in required databases and successfully close out referral.
- Partner Relationship Management: Collaborate and communicate closely with internal UW programs (Housing Services, Family Resource Center, Financial Empowerment Center and 211) and external partners (Akron Public Schools, Project Rise, SCDJFS) to maximize participant outcomes, program goals, and agency mission. Maintain positive relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience interacting or working with diverse populations, particularly families who have experienced housing instability, preferred.
- Prior experience in sales, outreach, public speaking, or community relations preferred.
- Firm understanding of personal challenges and systemic barriers associated with poverty developed through personal experience or work experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills required.
- Flexible and adaptable to organization scheduling requirements.
- Strong computer skills and experience in MS Office products (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Position is primarily a normal office setting, requiring long periods of sedentary work at a desk and computer.
- Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office utilizing stairs or elevator.
- Minimal lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to pass pre-employment testing including background check, drug and alcohol screen.
- Valid driver license and proof of insurance with ability to pass annual motor vehicle report check in compliance with corporate insurance requirements.
- Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit County area.
