Herzog Transit Services Inc. is currently seeking a Maintenance of Way (MOW) Manager in Kansas City, MO to join our team for the KC Streetcar.
Duties and Responsibilities:
*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
- Supervises technician(s), service maintainers and subcontractor for on-call OCS/TPSS repair
- Supervises external MOW contractors, suppliers, and vendors
- Performs diagnostics, troubleshooting and repairs of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) lite system
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of the electrical power system that includes the overhead contact system (OCS), and the traction power sub-stations (TPSS)
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance to the train-to-wayside signal system
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of all track and switches
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of equipment located in the VMF & MOW Facility
- Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance to all Streetcar Stations
- Perform thorough preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines
- Use test equipment, typical shop tools, torque wrenches, multimeter, power supplies, oscilloscopes, grounding devices, and portable test units
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of work and shop areas
- Responsible for VMF, alignment grounds, lawn care, and upkeep
- Utilizing owner provided Maintenance Management System, prepare and maintain a variety of work orders, maintenance and inspection reports
- Must interpret and execute items in contract between KCSA and Herzog
- Must oversee and maintain hours of service (HOS)
- Must be able to respond to emergencies 24/7
- Assist/train Technician(s) as needed
- Ensure department compliance, through SMS, with agency safety plans and documents
- Conduct safety inspections of the jobsite, public areas, adjacent thereto, take necessary and timely corrective actions to eliminate any unsafe acts or conditions
- Participate in all departmental, agency, city, State and FTA safety and security audits
- Participate in the hazard identification and resolution process
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- College or Technical School (electrician) degree is a plus
- Experience with Streetcar and/or PLC system maintenance
- Skill in maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and overhauling electrical and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles, repair methods, standards and practices
- Knowledge of test equipment and tools needed in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical, electronic, and electrical systems and equipment
- Strong knowledge of electronics including digital and analog systems
- Knowledge of general shop safety procedures
- Skill communicating orally and in writing
- Skill in performing maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and safety/preventive maintenance inspections
- Skill in implementing preventive maintenance and safety inspection procedures
- Skill in using test and shop equipment and tools, parts and supply manuals
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of business
- Skill in the use of electronic schematics, portable test units and diagnostic software
- Welding Certification a plus
- Ability to read, understand and apply technical information from service manuals
- Ability to read and follow verbal and written directions; ability to read, understand, and apply technical information found in repair manuals, service change bulletins, and applicable technical documents, including parts and supply manuals
- Ability to operate a computer and familiarity with MS Office products and maintenance information systems
- Ability to use a cutting torch when necessary
- Skilled in using a computer, proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Streetcar Yard Operation certification
- Skill in leading and training others
- Skill in working under established deadlines and timeframes
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
- Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.
- Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
- Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.
- Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.
- Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
- Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
- Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches.
- Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
- Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time.
- Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
- Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
- Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
- Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals.
