Risk Management Director - Healthcare develops and administers risk management programs. Creates and modifies policies to comply with safety legislation, JCAHO, HIPAA, and industry practices. Being a Risk Management Director - Healthcare coordinates and develops hospital-wide programs for quality patient care and risk-free services. Acts as the liaison to attorneys, insurance companies, and individuals. Additionally, Risk Management Director - Healthcare investigates any incidences that may result in an asset loss. Oversees insurance designed to protect the health system from loss. Collects information related to the claims and lawsuits made against the health system. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Risk Management Director - Healthcare typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • Responsible for assisting leaders in administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis, including managing and analyzing risk management data, facilitating systems analysis to promote and improve patient safety, conducting and facilitating risk management educational programs based upon availability and identified needs, and compliance with The Joint Commission's standards relating to risk management and patient safety. Abstracting charts for core measures, assisting in coordination of internal mock surveys and serving as a resource to departments in complying with Joint Commission standards. Functions as back up to the Infection Control Coordinator in her absence. Attends Medical Staff departmental and committee meetings as the QMS staff representative as assigned. Assists in preparing meeting agendas and taking minutes for various meetings. Bachelors degree required. BSN preferred. Three to five (3-5) years quality and / or risk management experience preferred. Experience in risk management, both court room experience and trial preparation experience, preferred. Certification in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and/or Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) preferred. RN licensed to practice nursing in required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) required. Excellent customer service skills required. Excellent organizational skills required. High level critical thinking skills and problem resolution skills required. Computer skills with word processing, graphics, presentation tools, and data base programs required. In depth knowledge of Joint Commission standards, Federal / State laws / regulations required. Ability to manage multiple projects/priorities and deadlines required. Presentation skills required.
