Risk Manager manages and administers an organization's risk-management programs. Implements policies, procedures, and controls to monitor and minimize the risk exposure of assets. Being a Risk Manager researches internal and external risk factors including economic, market, and regulatory risks that may affect the organization.   • Job Summary

    The Risk Manager is responsible for preparing underwriting submissions and presentations for all insurance policies, assisting with the placement of certain insurance, and will be responsible for overseeing claims reporting. The Risk Manager will also be responsible for the review of changes to the insurance clause in vendor and other contracts and assist in the identification, evaluation, and administration of risk management across the organization to support the corporate risk management philosophy. The candidate will have a working knowledge of property, commercial general liability, automobile liability, excess liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, fiduciary, workers compensation including the Jones Act, USL&H (Longshore and Harbor Worker’ Compensation), maritime employers’ liability, and Protection & Indemnity insurance.

    Job Responsibilities, Required Knowledge, Skills

    • Actively participate in HSSQE Management System Policies
    • Assist and answer questions from all other departments (Finance, Procurement, Maintenance, Operations and HR) relating to insurance
    • Assist with coordinating site tours, risk surveys, and loss adjuster inspections
    • Assists in reviewing insurance policy wording to ensure required coverage complies with operational, lease, and loan agreements
    • Attends and coordinates site tours and loss adjuster site or vessel visits
    • Coordinate with VP-HSSQE to develop and implement loss prevention and safety programs at both shoreside facilities and vessels.
    • Educate and train employees and contractors as to the risk management program and their responsibilities in carrying out the risk management program
    • Ensure the risk management concerns are given priority in all activities completed within their area of responsibility
    • Lead efforts in gathering and analyzing renewal data and the preparation of underwriting submissions, and presentations
    • Prepare underwriting submissions and presentations for all insurance policies, assist with placement of certain insurance, and will be responsible for overseeing claims reporting
    • Reports new claims to insurance and manages existing claims for timely conclusion
    • Responsible for the review of changes to the insurance clause in vendor and other contracts, and assist in the identification, evaluation, and administration of risk management across the organization to support the corporate risk management philosophy
    • Review incident reports with the VP-HSSQE and coordinate any claim reporting with the VP-HSSQE
    • Review monthly budget changes and assist with annual budget projects
    • Support policies, efforts, and programs of G&H’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System
    • Work with Legal and Procurement to review changes related to insurance for Master Service Agreements and other contracts
    • Works in conjunction with senior management to meet with and present to insurance brokers to promote G&H’s risk profile

    Education & Experience

    • A High school diploma or GED is required; an advanced degree in engineering, science, finance, business, law, or other related field is preferred; extensive experience may be considered in lieu of education
    • Bachelor’s or graduate degree
    • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks while meeting established timelines
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Experience in Maritime Insurance and legal experience is preferred
    • Experience with Jones Act injury claims, and all P&I and Hull claims for the fleet of vessels and maritime employees
    • Four (4) or more years of experience in risk management and insurance practices and claims
    • Highly organized, detailed oriented and self-motivated
    • Requires proficiency with computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Office applications, using a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking and sending email, and use of internet search engines

    Required Licensure & Certifications

    • Requires an active and valid driver's license

    Working Conditions

    • Work hours will be assigned based on business needs however, work hours will typically be Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. By request from the President, Work hours may include irregular hours to assist in completing special tasks or assignments
    • Out-of-regional travel may be required to attend training, seminars, and or work-related events
    • Work will be performed in the office, field, or remote setting if the job can support remote work and is approved by the President or another Executive team member

    • Assist the executive team when requested to complete special projects and complete all assignments within a negotiated time frame established by the President
