Risk Manager manages and administers an organization's risk-management programs. Implements policies, procedures, and controls to monitor and minimize the risk exposure of assets. Being a Risk Manager researches internal and external risk factors including economic, market, and regulatory risks that may affect the organization. Routinely evaluates the effectiveness of procedures and collaborates with internal stakeholders to monitor changes in the business environment. Additionally, Risk Manager manages statistical analysis and designing of financial models to predict the risk exposure of an organization's assets. Reviews risk analysis reports to ensure risks are identified and managed effectively. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Risk Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Risk Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Title: Risk Manager Status: Fulltime

    Exemption Status: Exempt Salary Grade: 30

    Department/Location: Diocese of Tucson Bishop Kicanas Pastoral Center / Tucson, AZ

    Primary Function: Under the direction of the Property Director or CFO is responsible for working independently in performing a variety of risk management duties in parishes, schools, and offices throughout the Diocese. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the Diocese by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The employee may not espouse, in word or deed, any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
    • Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
    • Working with Insurance Administrator, investigating claims and losses.
    • Inspect parishes and schools to assess possible risks.
    • Regularly inspect all physical plants within the diocese; make recommendations for improvements to parishes.
    • After discovering risks, compile data and information into well-organized reports.
    • Recommend best-practice protocols to help protect the assets of parishes and schools.
    • Recommend preventive measures to minimize costs and damage should a loss occur.
    • Identify any issues that may arise related to insurance or safety which could lead to litigation, if overlooked.
    • Improve safety protocols and make recommendations to parishes/schools on best-practice procedures and equipment modifications/replacement to mitigate risk.
    • Train and inform parish/school staff about risk awareness.
    • Help schools and parishes run and monitor safety drills.
    • Investigate threats to parish, school, and pastoral center staff and property and notify public safety authorities if necessary.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal work environment.

    Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, lifting, and climbing ladders.

    Basic Qualifications:
    • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be in full communion with the Catholic Church.
    • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
    • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public.
    • Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is always a must; ability to travel as required.
    • Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing, spreadsheets, internet, and e-mail.
    • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
    • Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check.
    • Be available for emergency callouts as necessary after hours and on weekends.
    • Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree (public safety, business, law, or other advanced degree preferred)
    • Four years of experience in a management position.
    • Minimum of four years’ relevant experience (e.g., risk management, insurance, public safety)
    • Excellent analytical, project management, and oral and written communication skills.
    Other/Preferred Skills:
    • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
