Job Description:
As the Head Chef you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our kitchen. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to:
1. Ordering and Inventory Management:
- Responsible for sourcing and ordering food supplies, ensuring optimal inventory levels.
- Regularly update and manage inventory records to prevent overstocking or shortages.
- Monitor and control food costs while adhering to the budget.
2. Staff Scheduling and Management:
- Create weekly kitchen staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff, including cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and address any personnel issues as they arise.
3. Kitchen Cleanliness and Sanitation:
- Enforce rigorous cleanliness and sanitation standards to meet health and safety regulations.
- Ensure the kitchen and food preparation areas are consistently clean and well-maintained.
- Oversee dishwashing and sanitation procedures.
4. Food Preparation and Quality:
- Ensure all dishes are prepared according to established recipes and quality standards.
- Implement and maintain consistent portion control to minimize waste.
- Conduct taste tests and visual inspections to guarantee food quality.
5. Compliance and Certifications:
- Ensure all kitchen staff possess valid food handler cards and renew them as necessary.
- Maintain compliance with health department regulations, safety standards, and certifications.
6. Equipment Maintenance:
- Oversee routine maintenance and repairs of kitchen equipment and facilities.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment repairs and servicing.
7. Timely Food Service:
- Ensure that all food orders are prepared and served promptly and meet quality standards.
- Monitor kitchen staff to maintain efficiency and minimize wait times for customers.
8. Budget Adherence:
- Manage kitchen-related expenses within budgetary constraints.
- Monitor and control food and labor costs.
9. Adaptability and Problem-Solving:
- Handle unexpected challenges and adapt to changing circumstances efficiently.
- Address any unforeseen issues or responsibilities that may arise in the management of the kitchen.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Kitchen Manager, Chef or similar role in a high-volume restaurant setting.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
