Description:
The Gardens Manager in Boston will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the network of community gardens in Boston as well as City Natives Nursery & Leatherbee Woods in Boston, and the Governor Hutchinson’s Field & the Pierce Reservation in Milton, and any additional properties acquired in the future within the Greater Boston area as determined. They will also oversee a robust series of programming and events and volunteer management and coordination for our network of garden coordinators, and all associated communications and meetings, including the spring and fall meetings.
Reporting into the Regional Vice President, the Gardens Manager will be responsible for delivering on established revenue goals while managing the annual operating budget and growth projections. The Manager will oversee a Regional Engagement Manager and a Regional Stewardship Manager, and work as the second in command for the gardens portfolio, supporting the Regional Vice President. They will also support all initiatives to develop partnerships with like-minded organizations and build community relationships in the area.
As the largest owner of community gardens in Boston and lead organization that advocates for urban growing in Boston, the Manager will often represent the Trustees mission and advocate for its mission with the Mayor’s team as well as several city, state and federal organizations. They will also support the Regional Vice President to grow our development efforts and support work with our development to raise funds, write proposals and reports, and host field visits. The Manager will be partnering and supporting all our Boston initiatives including the Boston Waterfront Initiative, the Mobile Adventurers and the Mobile Market.
Being able to manage staff across multiple disciplines and departments will be essential to delivering overall goals. An understanding of and ability to work with the larger organization will also be required as you access resources provided by central teams. The Manager will also support the Regional Vice President to expand the urban operating model across the state, to deliver on our goals of food access across the Commonwealth’s urban cities. Ensuring that the team is delivering a safe, consistently excellent visitor experience that welcomes all and ensures that our DBIE goals are they to the planning and execution of all our work, is a key function of this role.
